By Anthony Ernesto Nunez Everyone should read this book for it is extremely raw and real and truthfully I could not put it down once I started reading it…It is very hard to read a book these days about someone's life where you become involved in the outcome of one's life as I did in reading "Unsinkable Spirit" by Fred Engh. From the cover page of smiling faces of children playing a sport to the last page of the book, I was engulfed in the outcome of Fred and Michaele (Mike) life....here is a man that was thrown as a child in the real world of work to help support the family and did not really get to play sports that much throughout his childhood but ended up later in his life understanding the feelings of children thru sports better than people that dealt in sports all their lives and has made the sports world all the better by educating volunteers to become better people, coaches or volunteers with his knowledge and his love for all the children around the entire world to enjoy a sports.Mr. Engh put his entire life out there for everyone to read and the love and support he had for his mother, father and brothers and sister was undying. But the most important point I found in the entire book was his wife, Mike that sacrificed any wants and needs she had and needed to support her husband decisions and was always willing to move anywhere they needed to go to help support him and be able to raise 7 wonderful children.I have had the privilege of meeting Mr. Engh at his yearly NAYS conferences in Orlando and you would never know he is as famous as he is. He was very open and social with every one of us and treated us all as if we were all family members (we are in the NAYS family). I told myself I had only wished I had a person in my life like Mr. Engh that could have been a mentor to me throughout my life. He has raised wonderful children that work in the NAYS organization and everyone of them speak to you as an equal and always only a phone call away if you have a problem or concern.I was very proud to read Mr. Engh book and can't wait to meet him in person again to shake his hand for his book is so true about today's world of coaches and volunteers. I run a very large soccer program for over 20 years and I have seen, heard and been involved in so many of the stories that Mr. Engh described and this is the main reason I started into the NAYS program over 15+ years ago for he has and always will have the beliefs of all children's rights to enjoy a sports first and foremost in his heart. I hear the statement I have been coaching for years and I am a grade... so I don't need the class so I tell them all that is great but we all need to be on the same page and beliefs when it comes to coaching (any sport) soccer for the City of Pembroke Pines. After they come to the class they tell me it was not what they expected and they got so much out of it and I tell them it is all because a man by the name of Fred Engh had to foresight to make the world of sports a better place for all the children of the world and it is called "The National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS).Just a quick note: When I ran track at my school back in 1971-1975 I was the only white girl that ran track and the only one on the 440 & 880 relay, the local newspaper would do stories all the time on us for we won all the time, they would title us "The Soul Patrol plus ONE"...so I can really relate to his golf story.Thank you again for allowing me to read your book and I was able to get out of your book some of your loves and deep emotions...by the way I still feel sorry for the dog "Scrap". The true love of a dog is unconditional and you took that love and drive and put into your beliefs and emotions for the rest of your life to survive and become a mentor to me.Thank you again,Renee Nunez

The challenge of confronting the problems of volunteer youth sports would scare away even the most determined individuals, but Fred’s undaunted commitment and vision is inspiring. His success has helped improve the experience of young athletes dramatically.

By David Ludington Very seldom do you find someone who sees something wrong, then works diligently to make an impact in the right direction. It is inspiring and gives hope all in one quick read of a book. A personal story that hopefully will inspire many more people to follow their dreams.
