He had bills to pay, rent to keep paying and student loans to pay off. Then, when he heads home to his sort-of boyfriend he walks into the scene those in a relationship would dread finding when they come home early. Shame the idiot still owed him money, because chances were that Sean wasn't going to see a cent of it.Cal comes across Sean sitting on the curb looking decidedly sorry for himself. Sean had been on his way to see his best friend Cassie, and Cal was leaving Cassie's apartment to give the two some space. He's Cassie's brother and while he would cheerfully have Sean in his bed for a one-time fling, he never acted on his attraction because Sean was a boyfriend type of man.Cassie is an amazing friend and Sean is so lucky to have someone like her providing much needed moral support. Paul was...well he was a skunk of the highest order, but you have to have at least one of those in every story. This is a very short story, which is a shame because the author has set it up beautifully - you get to like the characters from virtually the first line. I didn't like what Cal did when Sean was drunk, but I accept he didn't instigate anything. We get a definite HFN even if it isn't an HEA, but if the story length had been doubled it could have been so much more. I am told this is the author's first m/m story and given how well the story flowed, I sure hope there is more to come. I will be keeping an eye out for more, longer works from this new author.Favorite line: What would it be like to be with someone who didn't hide, who didn't play games, who was that honest?Reviewed by Liza for Sinfully...Addicted To All Male Romance

But when his section is reorganized he learns firsthand that the last one hired is the first one fired. Determined to make the best of it, Sean decides to get his life in order. But when he goes home and finds his quasi-boyfriend in the middle of an orgy, Sean is devastated. When Sean turns to his best friend, Cassie, for an evening of commiserations, he’s surprised but pleased her older brother Cal is visiting. Because Sean has had a major crush on Cal forever, and this might finally be his chance to do something about it.This is an interesting short story about how life can finally turn a corner when everything seems darkest. I really enjoyed Sean’s character right from the start. I desperately wanted to help lift him up after he lost both his job and his boyfriend pretty much simultaneously. I could also see that Cal was exactly the sort of guy who’d be perfect for Sean. I was eager to see them come together and hopefully forge something wonderful – something that could set Sean on the right path to taking back control of his life.In many ways I found this to be a very sweet story. Except for some sexiness while Sean is drunk, Sean and Cal don’t just jump right into bed. Their movement from a cool, removed friendship into a real relationship is slow and gradual. There are some steamy kisses and plenty of indications they both are eager for more – but there’s no true consummation to my mind until right at the end of the story. Readers looking for a quick, erotically spicy story might not find this satisfying. Those looking for more of an emotional attachment, however, and for that “slow burn” kind of romance I think should really enjoy this.I was a little disappointed we never heard what happened with Cassie. While there was talk of her also moving along with Sean, we don’t hear anything about her after she gives Sean and Cal some space. I was very curious whether she, too, made the move or stayed back in San Francisco. While I appreciate she wasn’t a main character, as Sean’s bff and Cal’s sister I really felt knowing even briefly how her plans panned out would have rounded out the story perfectly and not left the plot feeling unfinished to my mind. Possibly though there’s a sequel planned and this will be resolved later. I hope so.Readers looking for an almost sweet M/M, where characterization and the relationship are central and sex – while present – takes a backseat will really enjoy this book. It’s short enough I feel it can be read promptly and I really enjoyed the tone and warmth between Sean, Cal and Cassie. A great read.originally posted at long and short reviews

Having been Sean's age once, many years ago, I'd been in the HR department being told management was restructuring, I was the last one hired, yadda, yadda, yadda, while in my head I was wondering how I can pay my bills and not wanting to call my parents. I could totally empathize with Sean on that scenario. Unfortunately, I also could empathize when he got home to find his roommate/friends with benefits/possible boyfriend, having porn sex with three other people in their bed. I didn't blame Sean for turning around and heading to his best friend Cassie's for some TLC.Cassie's older brother, Cal, is in town to visit from New York. Cal has always been aloof with Sean, mainly because Sean is Cal's type to a T. Sean, on the other hand, has always had a huge crush on Cal, but with the way he acted, Sean figured Cal just thought of him as his little sister's annoying best friend. Oh, how a really bad day can change and become the best day of your life, just when you need it the most. There is just something about a sweet, very hot short story that throws in hero worship and insta-lust that moves into caring, which makes me very happy. As I said, it was exactly what I needed. A little drama, a lot of steaminess, and a great happy ever after. I can definitely recommend it.NOTE: This book was provided by Pride Publishing for the purpose of a review on Rainbow Book Reviews
