They’re supposed to be business partners, but a lusty encounter between Eden and Damon sets their relationship on an unpredictable—and erotic—course Vibrant Eden Flynn is no stranger to bordellos; she was a bookkeeper in one, back in her days of poverty. So when she has to track down Damon Alexander, her handsome new mining partner, Eden doesn’t think twice about barging into a pleasure palace. But when Eden discovers her colleague entwined in a bargirl’s embrace, she can’t quell a rush of intense jealousy. She vows to make the brazen male want only her—not for just an afternoon, but for eternity.   Damon has been a regular at the brothels in Queenstown, New Zealand. Betrayed by a woman and hardened by experience, the strong, rugged miner figures a frolic in a hired beauty’s bed is his most honest transaction. So when Eden unexpectedly shows up with demands of cooperation and trust, Damon sees only greed in her emerald eyes. Certain that a quick tumble will send the gorgeous gold digger packing, Damon expertly seduces her. But the hard-living man is taken by surprise when unquenchable desire ignites for his wicked, wild Eden.

She doesn't want to but having promised him she finally does. She's there to claim her half of the mine that Shamus left to her. What she didn't expect was to fall in love with Shamus's nephew.Damon Alexander doesn't want Eden Flynn there. He expects her to be a gold digging ... just like his "dead" wife. But he ends up falling in love her. But there are a few people standing in the way. Namely Jock, a competitor who stills hold a grudge for winning Tessa, and Tessa herself, the dead wife. Both are bent on getting what they want. Jock wants Eden and Tessa wants Damon. What I didn't get was why Eden was so naive. Having worked in a bordello, even if it was just as a bookkeeper, I expected her to know something about men. But when Damon, thinking she's a ... tries to get her in bed, she immediately starts talking about love and marriage. And she kept crying and saying she loved Damon even while kissing Jock. Eden just seemed so immature. And it also surprised me how open the guys were about their feelings. Damon didn't really try to deny his feelings for Eden, even when they didn't know each other. It wasn't the best book I read but it also wasn't the worst.

Upon his death she inherited his share of a gold mine in New Zealand which was partly owned by Shamus' nephew Damon. She traveled to New Zealand to claim her share only to discover that Damon's nephew didn't want her there because he thought she was a gold digging witch like his deceased wife. Eden had no intention of fallling in love with Damon. Damon misjudged Eden more than once. He thought she was after his money like his first wife Tessa and he also assumed that since she had worked in a brothel she was experienced in sex. Far from it. Eden was virgin when he took her to bed and Eden immediately mentions love and marriage. Then there is Jock who is a wealthy, sophisticated landowner who decides that Eden should be his and he sets out to estrange her from Damon by bringing back Damon's deceased wife, Tessa. Eden's innocence regarding sex seemed a bit over done. Even if she was the bookkeeper in brothel it seems that she would have overheard some conversation regarding sexual intercourse between men and women. The New Zealand setting was good setting change from the usual historicals set in England.

But when Eden finally gets to New Zealand from San Francisco, Damon Alexander has a low opinion of her. He doesn't believe her to be the lady she is and partly because she was married to Shamus and partly because of where she worked. She was the bookkeeper and not one of the girl but Damon won't believe her. All because he is too busy judging her against his former wife. Will his treatment of her cause him to lose her to someone like Jock. A man who unlike Damon has been nothing but a gentleman in front of her? And even if he manages to win Eden could there be an unexpected complication to any plans he might have for her? Lynette Vinet has a writing style I like. This is a well written historical romance that is also a little on the shorter side but long enough, perfect for someone who loves romance but is short on time.
