2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Muffin tin recipes By CJS Many interesting sounding recipes. I love the concept of muffin tin baking, instant portion control. My only complaint is WHY NO PHOTO'S? There's the cover page and that's it. I'm sure the author has heard we eat with our eyes first...I hope he'll do an updated version and include photos.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. My mouth is watering By Ann F There are at least a half a dozen recipes I know I will be trying out soon! Even one possibility for Christmas morning.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The things you can do with a muffin pan! By Solfreedom This book has a lot of different and interesting recipes! The recipes are simple and easy, so almost any level of cook should be able to make these recipes. I cannot wait to try out many of these recipes. Most of the recipes call for things, usually found in your kitchen. If a grocery trip is needed, the ingredients are not that expensive. I would recommend to any level of cook, with a muffin pan. Kids would have fun helping with these recipes. One suggestion would be photos. They give us confidence in the finished product. Also, tuna seems to be involved in the description of peanut butter cookies.

I have only read 3 of Jill Gregory's books, and have enjoyed them all. "Always you" was full of Loyalty, Courage, and finding that One True Love. If you are looking for a GREAT western romance, read this book!!!!

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. One of my favorite historical romances! By A Customer It has been several months since I read this book. But it is one of those stories that stays with you forever. The hero character was so "dreamy". He was tough and rugged, but also sensitive and kind. One of the few good guys, Cal took my breath away so many times. I am not sure how they the reviewer could say the characters were stale as well as a the plot. I guess we didn't read the same book. Perhaps, the reviewer is one of the many who enjoy the man treating the woman with disrespect. I do not. Read this, and you won't regret it!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. absolutely delightful By stacey renee A very different plot set in the west with witty, sharp dialogue and characters you can climb into. Cal is a hero to die for and Melora is the pampered belle of the county. Which wyatt holden will Melora marry??.....the one she is engaged to or the one who kidnaps her and drags her across the black hills! There's plenty of action and adventure, betrayal and greed, compassion and caring and a surprising addition of family responsibilities taken to heart. The 5 sibling urchins are caught in the middle of this tale and tug at your heartstrings especially when they lock Melora and Cal in the barn at a matchmaking effort that sort of works! A one night read that was quite enjoyable and defenitely re-readable.

The Hanging Judge of California (formerly titled Perfect Justice) probes outrageous decisions by the Federal 9th Circuit Court in overturning death penalty verdicts. California Judge Donald A. McCartin, who sent nine men to death row, speaks out in fury when convicted child killer Rodney Alcala's verdict was overturned after 23 years.

The audiobook chronicles Alcala's crimes and trials, as well as the horrific murders committed by eight other killers who were sentenced by McCartin. The judge, called "Solomon with the sense of humor of Roy Bean, reincarnated," provides a glimpse into his personal memoirs, with a caustic insight into the appeals process, and his encounters with rich and famous personalities. A must-listen for true crime fans and those interested in the convoluted system of the appeals courts.

21 of 22 people found the following review helpful. ***** A MUST READ FOR TRUE CRIME FANS ***** By Spindrift Fans of prolific true crime author, Don Lasseter, will be pleased to discover this brand new Kindle version of his book, "Perfect Justice". It is the story of Judge Donald A. McCartin, of Orange County, California, who sentenced nine convicted murderers to California's death row, only to see them live perpetually incarcerated, waging one appeal after another in the prolonged epic battles to avoid their fates. Judge McCartin spent his storied career as a fierce proponent of capital punishment which inspired this author to refer to him as "The Hanging Judge". Eventually, after witnessing what he considered to be a great travesty of the justice system (one of the men he sentenced has logged thirty years in his death row cell) and being challenged by appeals attorneys on technicalities, religious "conversions", and a plethora of other sometimes laughably insignificant challenges to his rulings, he changed his pro death penalty stance and decided to fight along with opponents of the law against it. One of the condemned men had his court appearances arranged around kidney dialysis treatments, which prompted a local newspaper's headlines to read "Officials Keep Inmate Alive While Seeking Death". Although they did not agree philosophically, he joined the passionate battle against the death penalty along with the liberal actor Mike Farrell. Don Lasseter spent hours with the Judge after his retirement helping him document his new passion. It was not a "bleeding heart" liberal stance they took, but one of disgust at the astronomical costs that the taxpayers were forced to endure at the hands of the killers he had sentenced and their appeals attorneys.Regardless of how one feels personally about the politics of California's death penalty (a ballot proposition abolishing it in favor of life in prison without the possibility of parole was defeated in 2012 by voters; however, the election results were over ruled by Judge Cormac J. Carney in July of 2014) this book is a fascinating study of the nine vicious murderers that were sentenced to die by McCartin. From well known serial killers, like "The Angel of Death", Randy Kraft, and Rodney Alcala, the wicked slayer of several women, who made a now famous appearance as a contestant on "The Dating Game" in the midst of his killing spree in 1978 (is that enough to send a shudder down the backs of dating website enthusiasts OR WHAT???) to the murderer of young paper delivery boy, Benjamen Brenneman , in 1981.... each story is as bone chilling as the next. Young Benjamen's killer, Robert Jackson Thompson, died of natural causes in his cell in 2006, twenty five years after the crime. This prompted an outraged statement by the boy's mother crying that she felt cheated and "robbed" at not being able to witness the execution of her son's murderer. One is certainly left shaking their head after reading of the circus like atmosphere that the often endless appeals process brings to the judicial system and readers will feel Judge McCartin's frustration sharply. If you visit San Quentin prison, just north of San Francisco, in Marin County, on the beautiful bay, and gaze up at the decaying turrets that house California's death row, you will be struck with the most haunting sensation. "The Hanging Judge of California" is an extraordinarily compelling study of nine of its inhabitants. It is a breathtaking account of cold blooded murder, as well as a lens focused on a system that appears to be irreparably shattered and faces an uncertain future in the courts. You will also meet Judge McCartin. He was a man of witty insight who was capable of great humor and knowledge of the human spirit. He died in 2012, living to see only one of his condemned prisoners lose his life, and that to natural causes. You will undoubtedly have solidified your own personal opinion on capital punishment upon finishing "The Hanging Judge of California". And you will never forget Judge Donald McCartin.

15 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Don Lasseter is one of my favorite authors - I highly recommend all of his books! By Sweet Pea Very good book, as are all of Don Lasseter's books! Well written and informative. Mr. Lasseter obviously does amazingly thorough research of his subject matter and writes with clarity and to the point, without a lot of unnecessary filler and personal commentary. I highly recommend this book and suggest readers check out his many other books available at Amazon.com in print and on Kindle.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. California wastes millions of taxpayer dollars on their death penalty that they never use at all! By SETH WALTON Excellent book for the audio Edition. Dan orders is a good narrator. He did a great job at narrating the story. My only disappointment was that they didn't put the update in the audio Edition about Rodney Alcala's second conviction. This time he was not only convicted of the murder of victim Robin samsoe but was also convicted of three other murders that he committed and sentenced to death for all four murders. Rodney Alcala was stupid at defending himself. Furthermore, his idea of using the long version of Arlo Guthrie's massacre at Alice's Restaurant song in his defense was really stupid! My other disappointment is that the audio edition of this book does not feature any of the updates on the other death row inmates that Judge Donald McCartin sent to death row. Death row inmate John Thompson is dead. That's the guy that got sentenced to death for the murder of that young boy in Huntington Beach in 1981. John Thompson committed suicide on death row by overdosing on medication. Another saying that I don't understand is this: why is California such a bleeding heart liberal State when it comes to the death penalty? They have the death penalty so why don't they use it? We put them on death row and we kill them in Texas! In California, however, they just put them on death row and they leave them there. What good is wasting taxpayer dollars on a penalty that you're never going to use?

Review

“A deftly plotted portrait of the evolution of a teenage girl into a dystopian heroine.” ―Kirkus Reviews on A Girl Called Fearless

“I find myself wanting to demand the sequel right now, this very second, to find out just what Avie has planned and what was in Sparrow's message. All in all, very dystopian, very hard (emotionally) to read and very interesting.” ―USA TODAY on A Girl Called Fearless

“Linka's world-building is detailed and thought-provoking, recalling aspects of Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale.” ―Horn Book Review on A Girl Called Fearless

“The concept of a nation mourning multiple generations of women (other countries had long since banned American meat) is gripping, and the action flows at a steady and satisfying pace, propelling readers through to the cliffhanger ending...There is something achingly vulnerable in this novel where almost everyone seems to search in vain that will likely linger with readers.” ―Center of Children's Books Review on A Girl Called Fearless

“Readers who are fans of dystopian fiction will appreciate the action and suspense that both Avie and Luke have to work through, as well as the rebellious nature that both characters exude.” ―Voya Magazine

“A thought-provoking look at what it means to be a revolutionary and how change can be brought about by just one person.” ―Booklist

“Gripping, memorable, and heartrending. An ordinary girl becomes extraordinary in her fight for freedom.” ―C.C. Hunter, NYT bestselling author, Shadow Falls series, on A Girl Called Fearless

“Breathlessly written and terrifying in its implications, Linka's debut is not only a thriller but a warning.” ―Gennifer Albin, author of Crewel, on A Girl Called Fearless

“With a frightening reality, a forbidden romance, and a main character to root for, Fearless is a riveting read.” ―Megan Miranda, author of Fracture, on A Girl Called Fearless

“With civil liberties on the ropes and paternalism gone rampant, it's time for a brave young heroine to ring out the news. Can it be merely coincidence that her name is Reveare?” ―Tim Wynne-Jones, author of Blink & Caution, on A Girl Called Fearless

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A thrilling, fast-paced, gripping and wildly entertaining sequel By Fiktshun With a lightning-fast pace, a gripping and suspense-filled plot, and a number of surprises, A GIRL UNDONE is the thrilling and wildly entertaining conclusion to this two-book series. It brings even more excitement with not only retrievers but federal agents looking for Avie due to her involvement in what went down in Salvation. The tension has increased dramatically because of her notoriety, her mission, and the complication of being on the run with Luke. And with a few unexpected twists, it makes for an utterly captivating and unputdownable read. The story continues almost immediately following the events in the first book, with Yates hospitalized and Avie forced to leave him behind in order to keep her promise to try and get the information she’s holding into the hands of someone who can make a difference against the Paternalists. She is once again on the run and this time she’s not alone. But with her ultimate goal of getting to safety and being reunited with Yates, traveling with Luke is more problematic than helpful. And when his agenda conflicts with hers, she’s forced to choose between staying with him, trying to keep him safe, and trying to take down the Paternalists or staying on plan, putting herself first, and ignoring the sacrifices that were made. Though as a girl that Yates once upon a time called Fearless, there isn’t really a choice to be made at all.Catherine Linka did an incredible job of continuing, and wrapping up, her story in this sequel. She let Avie become someone who was more than outraged at injustice, someone who saw things only in black and white, someone impulsive and who thought only of herself. She let her become someone who was brave, someone who listened, someone who was willing to sacrifice, someone who was fearless. The author expanded the world, letting readers see just how negative an impact the Paternalist Movement had. She allowed readers to get to know Luke, introduced a few new key characters, and brought back one or two others they might not have expected to see again. She elevated the danger, the risk, the uncertainty. And she delivered a more than satisfying conclusion.A GIRL UNDONE promises to keep readers glued to the page. From Avie’s fugitive status, to the threat of recapture or retrieval at every turn, to the risk of losing the crucial information before delivery, to Yates’ uncertain future, readers will be on edge from the start. Add in deception, betrayal, a nosy neighbor, a dubious ally, twelve tiny chihuahuas, and a dress that is much more than a dress, and you have a story that will be unforgettable.

An unimaginable future for women By TicToc Posted first to Blog Critics as Book Review: 'A Girl Undone,' A Girl Called Fearless Series by Catherine Linka. With renewed interest in dystopian worlds we are given a rare new work in A Girl Undone by Catherine Linka. Where marriages and women are bought and bartered, Avie has escaped her own confines with her real love Yates. After a confrontation with the government, he has been hospitalized in critical condition and she is on the run. She carries information that she must get to the Paternalist party if she can locate the correct person. With the help of another friend, Luke, she tries to help keep them alive while finding the exact person who can use the information she now carries. Her face is on every news channel and a huge reward has been offered by the man who holds her own marriage contract. How can she move forward safely? Can she find the only man who can make sure the information is used in the right manner before she is captured or worse? Garnering feelings for Luke, she is unsure what her next turn should be. She knows Yates is her only real love, and yet she is conflicted in her feelings. Can Yates survive his own wounds, and even if he does, will she be able to someway break free of the bonds that bind her to another man. One who is extremely ruthless and embarrassed at her running away?Linka has given us a dystopian world with harsh guidelines and rules. Those who do not cave to the rules are often killed or disappear with no one the wiser. Avie’s only protection from death is the man she fears the most, the one that holds her contract. His character is one of the more complicated, and you will enjoy the process as Avie gets closer to her goal.Avie is a character both bold and conflicted. She is never quite sure of herself and has some flaws that keep her from being too strong. Unsure of her direction, but undaunted in the task she has, she is compelled to move forward for a better world. That she is torn between her feeling for both Yates and Luke only makes her just a bit more human. If you enjoy dystopian and futuristic worlds you will enjoy this work. There is romance, danger, mystery and at all times a belief in freedom that transcends the characters. The thrill of the chase and the tense romance will keep you reading to the very end. This would be a fun book for a book club or reading group, with much dialogue about freedoms and other rights of individuals.

So while reading A Girl Called Fearless suspending disbelief wasn't too difficult, and the book focused on American politics and the conspiracy and evils within our country's borders. Now though in A Girl Undone, you have Avie's world expanding and Catherine keeps up the suspenseful, chilling mood even though suspension of disbelief becomes harder. There's a lot of things couldn't get worse and yet they continuously do. Even gets a bit overbearing but I think that's the whole point too. Life doesn't magically correct itself especially when corruption, greed and controlling people face civil unrest and possible revolution.Avie is on the run and Yates is hurt. Her decisions now not only affect her life but an entire society's. She has to figure out how to solve issues and make decisions that go beyond her own heart's desire. For a sixteen-year-old girl living in a horrible world, Avie shows remarkable maturity in her growth from sheltered privileged girl, to spy on her own husband who she was sold to by her father and then on a government that justifies female slavery under the guise of fear and protection for the remaining women. It's the excuse multiple different sects, fundamentalists use to steal freedoms and deny the rights of others. Like I said, you don't really have to imagine much to see from where Catherine Linka pulled her ideas. Avie now is entrusted with information that could topple the worst of the leaders but it puts everyone she loves in direct danger. In A Girl Undone, the story of A Girl Named Fearless moves along at a steady pace without getting bogged down either. It felt like a natural continuation and kept me turning the pages as fast as I could to get to an end that sort of felt like you're left hanging. Sometimes I take offense at such endings and feel at loose ends but this ending felt right. Seriously such an important series and an amazing message for anyone who feels voiceless. Even if you struggle with the plot holes in the world-building, the books still speak volumes to the way people are being treated in today's society and our lack of pushing back against inhumane ideology and fear tactics used many times to keep us in our place.

I picked this up for a light reading during lunch and of course I ended up being that person who is sitting at my desk laughing to herself. It was sweet. At first the flashbacks confused me a little, but then I saw how important they were to the story. The cupcake think was adorable!! Oh and the butterflies! One thing though, I kind of wish it wasn't a short story. Maybe there will be an in-between of the college years?? Like a loss of inhibitions 1.5 :)I can just picture their back and forth relationship while she is getting to know her "friends" as her mother suggests.

Heinrich, son of a poor carpenter, grows up with his grandparents. With thirteen he becomes a shoeshine boy at a hotel. However, the young man has an aim: He wants to get to the top. With iron discipline and industriousness he can manage it: first policeman, then criminal investigation department official and, finally, Gestapo head of department. With that he belongs to Hitler’s narrower sphere. The daughter of the high Nazi official tells her unusual story, speaks of her childhood, stamped by disregard, missing love and bad treatment by her chronic alcoholic mother. At the end of her life she reveals to her son a knowledge which does not let her sleep and which could attain quite a particular importance also for himself. “A living biographic novel with historical-political relations.” Schardt, Oldenburg

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The Violet Hour by Brynn Chapman - Brynn hits another home run! By Jaime Lynn I read and absolutely ADORED Boneseeker by Brynn last year, and I vowed to read everything that Brynn Chapman writes from now on. It was honestly that good! When I saw the tour for The Violet Hour, I jumped all over it, without ever reading the synopsis. Didn't need to. It's Brynn Chapman! No wrong can be done! And I was right. I ADORED The Violet Hour. I will go ahead and apologize now for all previous and future exclamation points!!! So sorry about the delay in getting this review written. :( We have had some serious storms lately, and our power was out for almost 3 days, for the second time in as many weeks. Very frustrating. And very HOT without AC. Anyway, while I have power still *crossing fingers, knocking on wood*, here is my review! Allegra is in Charleston, SC, set to perform on stage, as her father demands since she is where his coin comes from, when she finally decides she has had enough. She runs, off the stage and into the crowded Charleston streets, and meets up with her lady's maid, Sarah and together with hardly anything between them, they start a new life. Allegra is a cello prodigy, and she finds herself a position at Charleston's Fancy, an amusement park for the wealthy ran by the evil Silas, playing in the orchestra. There, she meets Jonesy, who is her fast friend, and maybe a love interest for a certain ladies maid?! She also meets Mr. Lefroy, and she is instantly drawn to him. Allegra is hunted, and LeFroy is haunted, and together things are going to change in ways they never could have imagined. I am usually not a huge fan of historical fiction, but this is the second by Brynn Chapman that has sucked me in and held on tight, then spit me out the other side wanting MORE! Allegra was a fantastic character. Her father and brother are abusive, and horrible to her, especially after her mother passes. Then she finds herself at the mercy of Silas, who wants to own her and use her, as well. Yet, as frustrated and scared as she gets, she never gives up fighting. When she meets Brighton (LeFroy), she knows she ought to stay away, but she cannot even though he has secrets. Brighton was a very enigmatic character, and I loved that mystery that surrounded him. His and Allegra's romance seemed fast-moving, but it felt natural as well. I loved them together, and the things they were able to accomplish. Other characters side note: Sarah, Jonesy, Lucy and George (Brightons sister and brother) and Allegra's deceased mom all play large roles in the story, even when there parts are small, and they are all very well-written secondary characters. The sci-fi/fantasy part of the novel revolves around parallel dimensions. It was fascinating, how it came into play and the story behind its discovery. I loved this part of the book, but it is also where my one frustration lies. I wish there were MORE of it, and maybe a little more overall development with this aspect. I am hoping there will be a second book in the series, and it will be covered more in depth. Also, with that ending? How could that be the end? IT just CAN'T! Brynn Chapman has easily earned a spot in my favorite authors list, and I very much look forward to whatever she has for us next. Her writing is sharp, and smart and easily draws the reader in to the lives of the characters. Her characters are written with depth, and personality, relate-ability. I was pulled into this world, and could close my eyes and see the settings, the fancy-dressed well-to-do's oohing and aahing over the Fancy. I could feel Allegra's fear and worry and sadness, Brighton's anger and heartache and their combined hope. From beginning to end, The Violet Hour was just oh so good! I would absolutely, without a doubt recommend this book to anyone who likes historical fiction, science fiction and romance, one or all three! Thank you so much to YA Bound tours for allowing me to be a part of the tour! Looking forward to whats next, Ms. Chapman!

Historical romance with a fantasy twist By Emily Anne K After running away from her controlling and abusive father, Allegra tries to make a new life for herself in Charleston. Weird things start to happen in connection to a young man named Brighton. Despite the warnings from her friends, Allegra is drawn to him and wonders if he can help unlock the mystery of her mother’s death. The Violet Hour by Brynn Chapman was not what I expected. I expected something along the lines of a historical novel, meaning, nothing supernatural or magical would occur. But I quickly found that that was not the case. In fact, some of the strange things happening in the book could only be explained by something earth does not contain in real life. The mystery of what the magic was kept me interested throughout the book. The beginning of The Violet Hour confused me a little. In the first chapter, the tale was told through brief glimpses scattered over several months. I understood most what was going on, but had little background into the characters to base their actions off of. But, the confusion cleared up in the next chapter or two and I had no problem reading the rest of the book.Bright and Allegra’s romance was interesting. Their secrets kept them from getting to know each other well at first. Once they decided to trust one another, sometimes because they had no other choice, their relationship took off. There were some arguments, as in any relationship, but it was refreshing to see that they did not get hung up on the problem but instead quickly forgave and moved forward with their relationship. The Violet Hour was not exactly my normal read, but I found I enjoyed it and would recommend it to others.I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. spooky and mysterious By donniedarkogirl I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review. The Violet Hour's synopsis caught my eye because I thought it sounded like a unique and mysterious read. I don't get into historical fiction a lot, but that aspect of the novel has much to do with what drew me into reading it.I'm drawn to reading about characters who have lost a parent. I know that sounds macabre, but I've been through it myself and can relate. While The Violet Hour's main character, Allegra, lost her mom to suicide, I lost my mom to cancer. Throughout the novel, I always had this hope that maybe Allegra's mom wasn't really dead. Maybe it was all a mistake or some sort of twisted misunderstanding. I think my feelings about wishing my own mom was still alive bled into The Violet Hour. I really do.Allegra is a bright, intelligent young woman, and for her time, well, she's ahead of it. It was incredibly brave of her to leave behind the comfort her father's wealth afforded her and go out into the world to live her own way. I couldn't have done it, and I admired that about her. Her father sounds like a horrible man, and it's no wonder she was determined to get away.I definitely found Brighton interesting, and of course I wanted to know if everything the musicians whispered about him was true or not. I wouldn't say that Allegra and Brighton were victims of insta-love, but they were attracted to each other right away and I loved it! While Allegra was determined to try to spend as much time with him as possible, he was fighting his attraction to her. So they weren't instantly in a relationship, but one developed over time naturally. The mood of the story was a bit spooky and mysterious, which I loved. Each layer of mysterious happenings was revealed at a good pace - not too fast, not too slow - and I was left wanting to find out more. I was right about The Violet Hour - this is a unique and well written story. The time period, right before the Civil War, made for an interesting setting. The Violet Hour could very well make you want to grab as much historical fiction as you can if you aren't already a fan of the genre. Plus the spooky mood with hints of danger throughout makes for an engrossing read. I recommend The Violet Hour to anyone who can't resist finding out secrets and Allegra and Brighton are characters you're definitely going to want to get to know well.

Zeya screamed in despair, tears flowing from her eyes. Her game of playing her virtual lovers against one another had gone too far. How did it all go so wrong? Her life had seemed so perfect, and she had never been happier. She made money, lots of money, by displaying her naked body to men and fulfilling their every dark fantasy – it seemed so harmless and fun. What could go wrong, after all? She was safe in an anonymous studio in Romania; her lovers were somewhere else. What could possibly go wrong? She was betrayed by love, lust and emotion. Her perfect life unraveled because of her two lovers, Dave and Zaphod. Both wanted her for themselves, but they could never have her. They ached to do more than just watch on a computer screen as she played her lustful, nasty games, and schemed to steal her away, by whatever means necessary. Zeya thought she had it all under control, but while she played and teased, another, a man whose name she didn’t even know, laughed to himself and played the threesome for his own evil purposes. He was going to make her pay for spurning him, and he had all the time in the world for his malicious plots to mature and ruin her beautiful life. Meet Zeya, a beautiful woman who gave private sex shows to anyone on the internet for $2.99 a minute. She was a top professional cam model, working in an exclusive, high-class studio in Romania. She thought she had it made. Life was good, and she was making a lot of money. She learned how to make men fall in love with her. Little did she know, by toying with men, making them lust after her and fall in love, she was playing with fire. Life hadn’t always been so good for Zeya. Before becoming a cam model, she barely had enough money to survive; the rent was late, she hadn't eaten in days, and life was looking pretty grim. In desperation, she pulled together enough change to take the bus, one way, to a cam studio in Bucharest. She wasn't sure what it was, but she knew she needed money, and needed it now, and they were hiring pretty women and paying top dollar. The studio took one look at her and hired her on the spot. The next day she found herself on display on the internet, fulfilling the sexual fantasies of men from all over the world. Within a few months, she had become an expert at teasing men, showing them just enough to get them to push that button for a private sex show. She learned how to turn on men, keep them interested, hook them in and make them want her more than life itself. She was a sex goddess, fulfilling the fantasies of hundreds of men. She had them all wrapped around her finger, and they would do anything for her. Life was perfect. She was happy. Until two of her clients fell in love with her, and her perfect life quickly unraveled. It all spun out of control as her two lovers fought to make her theirs. The result became her worst, and deadly, nightmare.

By Laura Conrad Cam Model Confidential is the story of Zeya Marsh, an unassuming girl who was looking for a job and instead found a way of life. Follow her as she learns the ropes and becomes the most successful cam girl in her studio—at a price.Marsh's writing is unrivaled. She details what is often considered a seedy profession with honesty and grace. While some of the content is violent or sexual in nature, it is written in such a way that it becomes a natural part of the story as opposed to being edgy for the sake of entertainment. More than anything, though, Cam Model Confidential brings humanity to this sect of sex worker culture. Marsh exposes readers not only to the inner-workings of a cam studio, but to the lives of her fellow cam models as well. This novel is not only entertaining; it is extremely well-written with a solid, fluid plot. Cam Model Confidential is writing that will be in my Kindle library for years to come.

This is a story about Zeya, a young woman living in Bucharest. Working a few jobs and still unable to support herself she becomes a cam model. She learns the ropes quickly and soon she becomes the largest money maker in the cam studio where she works. Her goal is to save enough money to become a veterinarian. All things come at a price. Zeya knows how to make her customers feel loved. So much so that things get out of hand. I found it to be an fast interesting read.

Everyone has to find their own way By ahhmericanwoman I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This is an intriguing, intense book. It tells the story of a young woman in Romania, trying to make it on her own while she attends college. Jobs are hard to come by, especially ones that pay a decent salary and are available to women. Zeya, the heroine, keeps seeing ads in the paper for models, and they pay well. She cannot pay her rent, has practically no food to eat, and can't even put gas in her car. She is very depressed to the point of being borderline suicidal. Her first attempt to get a modeling job ended in a horrible disaster, leaving her worse off than she was in the first place. Still, out of desperation, she tries again, using the last money she has for bus fare. This time she is much more fortunate – the studio where she applies hires her on the spot, and everyone seems very nice. They also advance her enough money to get by until she starts getting paid. She is told she will be a cam model, and ask her if she knows what that is. Zeya understands that she will be modeling naked, but not much more than that. She learns there is more to it than just sitting naked in front of a camera. It is a lot like acting, helping to fulfill the customers' fantasies. There is a lot of very detailed information in the book on what it is like to work inside the cam industry. There is also a lot of focus on the internal struggles Zeya faces while she learns her job. At first she feels guilty, like her family, friends and possible future boyfriends might think of her as a whore. Over the course of time, she finds acceptance for herself, friends and even a family atmosphere among her co-workers, and eventually pride in being good at what she does. Ultimately, she realizes that she is a good and worthy person just as she is, and she doesn't have to be a victim to what other people think. This is an extremely well written story, both informative and interesting from the standpoint of looking inside the cam industry, and also in the personal growth of the character. It gives you a lot to think about and is definitely a worthwhile read.

Best PDF Ebook Proof of Forever, by Lexa Hillyer

From debut author and poet Lexa Hillyer comes the lyrical story of four seventeen-year-old friends who receive an unlikely chance to relive the perfect summer . . . and the devastating secret that could unravel it all. Elegant and evocative, Proof of Forever is one of those first novels that hooks you from the beginning and builds toward a stunning—and unexpected—end, calling to mind Gayle Forman and Ann Brashares.

Joy, Tali, Luce, and Zoe were once best friends. Now they barely speak. That is, until the fateful flash of a photo-booth camera transports them back in time, to the summer they were fifteen—the summer everything changed. Photos fade. Friendships dissolve. Summers end. But this one will change the girls forever . . . again.

Wendy Wunder calls Proof of Forever "The Sisterhood of the (Time) Traveling Pants for a new generation!"

From School Library Journal Gr 10 Up—Before heading off to college, Joy, Tali, Luce, and Zoe attend their summer camp reunion. While in a photo booth, they suddenly find that—poof!—they are back in time. They immediately devise a plan to re-create that last week at camp, hoping it triggers the portal to return to the future. The alternating narratives of each girl relive past slights and joys and enable each character to learn more about who she really is as a person and friend. Reader Emily Woo Zeller tries to give each of the girls a unique voice, but ultimately they all end up sounding similar. The girls themselves are quite one-dimensional (there is the smart one, the pretty one, the gay one, and the quiet one), and it is difficult to see how they were ever friends to begin with. VERDICT While the story deals with heavy topics, such as sexual orientation and death, the plot and characters remain very shallow.—Suzanne Dix, The Seven Hills School, Cincinnati, OH

Review “A beautifully written testament to the power of friendship and the possibility of second chances, told with humor, heart, and a little bit of magic.” (Jennifer E. Smith, author of The Geography of You and Me)“Sexy, soulful, and surprising.” (Corey Ann Haydu, author of O.C.D. LOVE STORY and LIFE BY COMMITTEE)“Complex and sophisticated, Proof of Forever is The Sisterhood of the (Time) Traveling Pants for a new generation! You will love this memorable, sparkling debut!” (--Wendy Wunder, author of The Museum of Intangible Things and The Probability of Miracles)“A quintessential summer novel...This novel will appeal to fans of Sarah Dessen, Jennifer E. Smith, and Ann Brashares. VERDICT Hillyer has penned a tale ideal for readers seeking something sweet tinged with a hint of sadness.” (School Library Journal)“A quick, enjoyable read that should resonate with readers on the cusp of adulthood.” (Kirkus Reviews)“Fluid and layered with emotion.” (Publishers Weekly)“Poignant and surprising...a perfect summer read.” (RT Book Reviews)“An edgier, more risqué version of Ann Brashares’ Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2001), Proof of Forever features four authentic teenage voices and unique perspectives that will encourage readers to reevaluate their own friendships, love interests, and philosophies of life.” (Booklist)“In the vein of Sarah Dessen or Ann Brashares, Proof of Forever is an ode to summer camp...a perfect read for a sprawling summer day.” (BookPage)

From the Back Cover

Before: It was the perfect summer of first kisses, skinny-dipping, and bonfires by the lake. Joy, Tali, Luce, and Zoe knew their final summer at Camp Okahatchee would come to an end, but they swore they'd stay friends.

THEN: That is, until the fateful flash of a photo-booth camera transports the four of them back in time, to the summer they were fifteen—the summer everything changed.

Now: The girls must re-create the past in order to return to the present. As they live through their second-chance summer, the mystery behind their lost friendship unravels, and a dark secret threatens to tear the girls apart all over again.

Always: Summers end. But this one will change them forever.

By YA Book Madness Blog ***I received this book as a giftProof of Forever is about the bonds of friendship, the trouble of growing up, and the bittersweet yearning for the past.PROS:Proof of Forever captures the painful reality of friends growing apart with growing up. The confusion and hurt over what when wrong and how it fell apart so quickly is raw and poignant. Each character has their own set of issues to deal with both in the past and present. The road to self discovery is gained through remembering who they used to be with the help of good friends lost to time. There is a fair bit of diversity and social commentary that isn’t blatant or in your face, it’s a slow forming revelation that brings a greater emotional depth to each story. People of color, LGBT, social classes all mix in and bring a complexity to the story that makes it more real.I loved Joy’s story. Her struggles, the fire of new love, her desire to explore and conquer her fears were all powerful and beautiful.CONS:Some sections are slow and a bit boring.Conflicts were left unresolved. The discoveries in the past clashed with those in the current time and were left unspoken for in the future. Each girl’s story becomes more individual and personal when the point was to rekindle their friendship. It got a little lost.

Flashes of special moments and the infinity symbol works so well.Four best friends who haven't been together for two years return to camp for a one-night reunion. That one night turns into five when the photo booth they're in takes them back in time.Memorable, bittersweet, romantic. From page one, PROOF OF FOREVER grabbed my attention. We find out that four camp friends—Joy, Tali, Luce, and Zoe—have grown apart. But Joy insists that they all attend their camp reunion.Coming together isn't easy. There are a lot of hurt feelings, plenty of miscommunication, resentment, but also a lot of love below the surface. If only they can recapture why they had been so close and resolve the past hurt.As they return to the past and relive their last camp experience, they not only try to figure out how to return to the present, but also to understand each other. They try to relive it as they had in order to recreate a photograph from the Photo Booth, thinking that will be the key.Of course, that's not easy at all.I love . . .1. that the girls end up unitizing this time to discover more about themselves, both individually and as a group.2. that choices made have various results, often not what they had intended.3. that we discover painful secrets.4. that the bonds of friendship, despite hurt feelings, can indeed prevail if you're willing to work hard enough and forgive.5. the swoony-boy relationships that a few of the girls experience.6. the realization that their quick judgments of others are sometimes false, that they need to get to know other campers more intimately to understand them.7. that we have to live life for ourselves, not to please others.8. the emotional ending!!!!PROOF OF FOREVER is about self-identity, love, family, healing, deep relationships, and letting go when it's needed. It's about ties that can never be severed. It's a beautiful, touching, emotional story of the power of friendship—how it brings us together or tears us apart, how it grounds us in a place like tree roots that can make us feel safe or shake us up and leave us floating away like helium balloon strings that have been released into the sky, leaving us drifting away from the people we love, those we thought should have held tight. The writing and storytelling is gorgeous! This is a perfect summer read for anyone who loves a contemporary YA novel with a twist of fantasy, time travel, magic, love, and of course FRIENDSHIP!

Bristol "Proof of Forever," begins when its four main characters: tomboyish, sci-fi fan Zoe; A-list Tali; straight-A Luce and optimistic Joy of the mysterious secret reunite at a summer camp reunion. They've long since drifted apart and are more concerned with their own romance and family issues than each other's. However, when they are all flung back in time two years ago to a particular summer at camp, it seems like their only chance to getting back to the future is to repeat a photo shoot at the end of the week. Now the girls must deal with such issues as the loss of well-developed breasts (really), the possibility that one of their parent's is having an affair, as well as love interests who may or may not be the ones they remember ending up with in the present. As their fateful day approaches, each girl must figure out who she is and what kind of person she wants to be with. This book had an interesting premise, and I wanted to like it more than I did. I really liked Zoe's and Joy's sections, but I couldn't really sympathize with Tali and Luce. I also felt the pace dragged a bit, and there were many characters mentioned briefly as if the reader was supposed to know who they were but who never appeared again. Overall, it's a sweet story, but could have used more character and plot development.

Their friend, the Duke of Westshire, a fair and heirless man, has just died. Before going, he left explicit instructions as to how the next Duke will be chosen. The problem is, one of his councillors (as the British spell it) wants that dukedom more than he can fathom. That’s when the trouble starts. It seems that the boys of Fort Willow are all being offered free places at a nearby boarding school. Most parents here can’t afford it, so they jump at the chance to educate their sons at a prestigious school. But Soloman, the local orphan, doesn’t think anything good is going on. So he enlists the help of Petronella to see if she can sort things out. But before she can get started, Soloman is discovered in the woods by three witchy types and the judge who was responsible for sending the boys off to school. Unfortunately, they see him, and he soon learns of their nefarious plans.A cute story, this book is the second in the series starring Petronella. Part Grimm Brothers, part Enid Blyton and part Tarzan, it’s sure to please kids looking for adventure.Petronella and the Janjilons by Cheryl Bentley was published April 1, 2015 by Sparkling Books Limited. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. An unusual paranormal read By Whispering Stories **I received a free copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review**My rating 3.5 stars - but Amazon don't do half stars. After having a surreal dream on her 18th birthday in which she is wandering through a desolate house, Amanda wakes up confused and wondering why it all felt so real.To celebrate her birthday, her two best friends take her on a surprise trip to the lake to have a private girly party, however they are not alone as two strangers are watching them from afar, noticed only by Hanna. After their party, Hanna seems to be acting strangely and doesn’t want Amanda to be left alone, unless she is at home, and tells her not to invite anyone in to her house. If it’s not Hanna accompanying her to places, it’s her quiet but lovely brother, Craig.Something is wrong and Amanda wants answers, but no one seems to want to tell her the truth. Will she every discover what changed on the day of her 18th birthday?"The Eternity Road" is a YA Paranormal story written by a début novelist. The premise of the book, a young woman with secrets so hidden that even she doesn’t know about them, thrown amongst a group of immortal hunters, she knows nothing about, is exciting. Add in the Vampires who need her and a few witches along the way and this is the perfect book for paranormal fans.I really enjoyed the book up until it started having flashbacks. Some of them, I’ll admit, were needed as the book wouldn’t have worked without them. Some however, really didn’t add anything to the story, and in fact I actually found that they distracted the focus away from the main plot. I didn’t really need to know all about the hunters’ past lives, and how and why they became hunters. This kind of information is best left either out completely, or written in a prequel. The main characters all had their own voices and characteristics, and all added depth to the story in their own special way. I particularly liked Ruben as this was a ‘man’ who had been around for a long time, and turns out he just wanted someone to love. He thinks that he may have found that perfect person, surprising even himself!Amanda is a strong, sassy young woman, but I struggled to connect with her. I can normally visualise characters in my head when I’m reading, but I couldn’t with Amanda, which was a shame as the story was all about her.The book ends without fully revealing all of the answers, but with a ‘To Be Continued’ as the final sentence, I’m sure that book two will fill you in on them.If you’re in to YA Paranormal books then this is something slightly different to your average novel. A good book which I was eager to read, but it didn’t hold me captivated, unfortunately – I would still need to read book two though, as I have many questions that I would like answering.Reviewed by Stacey on Whispering Stories Book Blog

By Danielle *** Received this as a free book for an honest review***First I must say, I don't generally read G rated novels, and seldom do I read YA, but I love the paranormal so I agreed to read it. That being said, I rated according to the book, the writing, and how I feel my teens would also fare with this book. Now of days with the paranormal being very sexualized, its great to be able to give young girls/boys something to read without worrying about content.Book ReviewEternity Roadby Lana Melyan4.8 StarsYoung Adult book with zero sensual content, great for young teens also! This book, I will not tell a lie, was a little rough the first half of the first chapter. It was choppy and felt forced to get to the point and destination of where it needed to be. Basically was trying to put a minor back ground, although needed, was hard to get through when you read as often as I do. This is why I took off a tiny bit. BUT, I was pleasantly surprised by the end of that first chapter that it became more fluid and easy to read. The dialog was much easier to read, and although young (teenage language) it had substance that was interesting. The story was continuous and allowed for a faster paced read. There was always something going on and I genuinely liked that.Story begins with a young girl who is dreaming vivid dreams. She is in this house that is empty that she calls the “dusty house”. Amanda’s mother died, it was just her, her dad and her caretaker. She had two best friends, Hanna and Kimberly, who she did everything with. Hanna’s ‘brother’ Craig was the guy she had an impossible crush on, but knew there was just no chance for her because he was just very distant although caring. It wasn’t long into the story strange things began to happen, vampires became real, people were able to heal at impossible speeds. The vampires want something from her…but do the people she cares about the most also want something from her? And if so, are they even her real friends, or just being kind to get something from her?The story unfolds in different times. Three different times to be exact, but it is done in a way that was easy to follow. It doesn’t jump all over the place. If you don’t like cliff hangers, this isn’t the book for you lol because it ends with the story beginning a new chapter of someones life. It’s like knowing a person just graduated medical school and received their residency paperwork. Ok, what’s next lol…but I like cliff hangers so I really liked her placement. Was a perfect spot to end the book. All in all, if a young teen / young adult is looking for a good book, this is a great start to a series. If you are looking for high romance, look elsewhere, but there is some kindling romance and its G. There is a minor kissing moment. All in all great beginning for this authors series!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. it sometimes felt like there was over exaggeration on how people were talking ... By Samantha Received free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This was a very interesting read. There was a lot of information to absorb as well, from the origin to the backstory of what’s going on.The way it was written, it sometimes felt like there was over exaggeration on how people were talking and walking. Example, a girl was walking with enough force that it looked like she was kicking people. That just makes me think she looked like she was marching military style or she was rearing her legs back and actually kicking. When there wasn’t over exaggeration though, the writing was good.In the beginning there was a little high school drama and it was a little slow to get going but when the drama stopped and the plot picked up, I was hooked, especially with one character that I had a bad feeling about.I really loved the fact that the author brought the readers into the past every now and again and I really never saw the ending coming. This ending is something that even if it was spoiled, I would still be surprised at how this all turned out.The cover is gorgeous, it’s very eye catching. I know if I saw this in a store, I’d look back at it and read the back cover so you see, it’s kind of a double edged sword on judging a book by its cover. The pace is a little slow but the plot takes some explaining so it’s rather appropriate and the characters take a little time to connect as well, at least for me, but it is emotional when you do connect.I would recommend this to people wanting to get into the vampire genre or are fans of The Vampire Diaries.
