You are so honest and upfront in your style. You had me shifting from my usual pessimistic frame of mind with your easy-to-understand way of explaining the concept of intentions, that had me thinking "Why not? Why wouldn't this work for me?" Instead of my usual "This WON'T work for me!"I especially appreciate your non-hypey way of explaining the concept of intentions - you bring a very esoteric concept into alignment with science, and I need that sort of concrete explanation in order to make it believable to me.Before reading this book, I didn't know the difference between an intention and a goal. And I was setting myself these massive goals and putting myself under huge pressure to achieve them by a tight time frame (and never achieving them, so feeling bad.) So now I know that the intention comes before the goal, that has freed my mind and heart so much. I literally feel lighter. A shift has happened.Onward and upward, thank you so much.

Get your 'intentions' on - a thought provoking read on setting intentions to change up your reality By Ashley Setting intentions that lead to inspired action and better still awesome results gives you a powerful edge on overwhelm and the busy crap masquerading as 'important' that can quickly make you and your day well ... suck. I really liked the section on the practice of contemplating intention questions that help you set better intentions for a more meaningful and productive day. Elles also provides 64 intention questions to really get your mind fired up, and ready, and primed to make your reality just that little bit more awesome. A fabulous little guide that will inspire you to get your 'intentions' on.

This book encourages believers to activate their New Testament priesthoods by first understanding the difference between the Old Covenant teachings of tithing and the New Testament grace teaching that many churches fail to preach. Secondly, this book explains how believer's charitable works can increase exponentially and give fulfillment and purpose to their personal experience. It looks at how believers pay their tithes to the churches and almost directly afterwards, out in the community, needs arise but the believers cannot assist because their tithe to their churches has left them empty of financial resources. Basically, their priesthoods lack an essential resource - money. It is easy to say, “I will pray for you.” But having hard cash on hand would assist more effectively than the promise of prayer. Too many believers are priests without resources. God blesses believers with income, but they delegate their hard earned money to another priest, and he or she gets the joy of choosing how to spend it; and it may not be for something that the believers approve of. Because believers are not obliged to tithe in the New Testament; that immediately releases substantial income for the believer to work with and it creates the means to establish a personal Joseph Storehouse resource. To the person who desires a greater fulfillment in the Kingdom service, as soon as you have even a little money to expend, you stand in a position of great strength and can bless someone in need.

57 of 67 people found the following review helpful. Disappointing. By Amazon Buyer I loved books one and two, but this one seemed rushed or incomplete. The relationship between Ceony and Prit was unresolved, and honestly had a lot of turmoil for nothing. She got to say sassy speeches to him, but it just seemed so trivial. Also, the entire ending with Bennet was so weird. It was like the author didn't want Ceony to have a healthy friendship with any man that might be interested in her. Bennet was an understanding and compassionate person, so why turn him into a dick in the last pages of the book? Especially after Ceony had justified willing flirting with him to get him to do things for her - she wasn't exactly a very nice person to him.And Ceony really got a little tiring with her "I can solve everything attitude". She was best in the first book where she was young and had no choice but to go out and save the day. In this book she was older, and it turned into just being reckless and dumb. She should know better, and it was really hard to be excited about her adventures when the only thing I could think of was "this is so dangerous and counter-productive."I think the problem is as the book went along, I didn't LIKE Ceony anymore. I wouldn't want to hang out with her, as she seemed like a rather fussy, uptight person to deal with.

25 of 29 people found the following review helpful. Incredibly disappointed By Theresa *Sigh* I'm really disappointed in this third book and struggled to finish it. [Contains some spoilers, but not big ones.]I read The Paper Magician (Book #1), and really enjoyed it. The world the author created was built just enough, the characters were interesting, the villain was unique, and the resolution was satisfying. Ceony, the protagonist, was a little annoying, but in a youthful sort of way that made sense for her character. I didn't *love* the relationship between Ceony and Emery, but it also didn't feel out of place. The Glass Magician (Book #2), was less enjoyable than the first book, but follow-up works are hard and I still enjoyed the read. Ceony's infatuation with Emery was really starting to irk me, but I was still able to write it off as a crush on her part. Her friendship with Delilah seemed out of place because Delilah (or hardly any other characters from her school, etc.) was not introduced in the first book. So, now I'm to The Paper Magician (Book #3). I basically didn't like anything about this book. Ceony comes off as ridiculously juvenile and whiny despite being more experienced and about to test for her official title of "Magician." In the previous books she was headstrong, but in this one she's just silly. Maybe the author was trying to show Ceony's evolution into a full-fledged magician, but it didn't work. Mg. Bailey as a character had a lot of potential but by the end of the book I didn't even know why he was a character in the story at all! He ends up being a weak Snape knock-off. Ceony's obsession/infatuation with Emery became really obnoxious (as a side note, I didn't care for how much cooking/cleaning/etc. she did in the first two books, but in the third book, combined with all the other "relationship" details, it really seemed like she was practicing to be a maid/wife). Ceony's relationship with Bennet was also really random, and the ending conversation between them came out of no where. And let's talk about the ending conversation between Ceony and Mg. Aviosky... Um, what?!? I know this book is a period piece, and the role of women and opportunities for women need to be considered in that context (I guess), but seriously....I'm giving this book 3 stars because the first two were substantially better and laid at least a bit of a foundation. On it's own though, I'd probably give the book 1-2 stars.

To all of you who may be reading this, I give you my wholehearted guarantee that this book will move and effect you on a deep and lovely level. It is best to think of these books, as one story. This is the reason why I have not commented or reviewed until now. The first volume, if you will, is purely foundational. The second is fast paced and exciting. This is where our heroine goes through her trials, and comes out victorious. The third is matured, and ties up loose ends without disappointment. – no god in the machine or loop holes. When you think of the book in this way, I can assure you that you will not be disappointed.Instead of spoiling anything for anyone, let me say this: I waited. I waited and looked forward (even marking it on my calendar) to this book’s final installment, and downloaded it as soon as it came out. I would not be surprised, given a good agent, to see this book one day as a movie.Again, I will not spoil or ruin anything for anyone. Just please download this book. Go do it right now. Start with book one though (or volume rather?). You know you want to download it, so just download this book already!A special note to the author: you have captured our attention. You have an eye for detail, and do not give in to the temptation of many “writers” these days who are obsessed with gratuitous sex and unneeded clichés. Stay true to yourself. Don’t let anyone tell you that you need to change your style to appeal to a “broader” audience. Books like “Twilight” and “50 Shades” are drivel and shlock. You have a gift. Please never change and believe in yourself. And if magic were to play a role in an upcoming story, then that would be lovely. Regardless of what you write, I will buy anything from this day forth. You have officially acquired a dedicated fan. … please… don’t let me down. Oh! But I know you won’t, so just get to writing the next book already!Last comment: please don't write another volume of this book. Let it go out perfectly as it is. If you must write in this universe again, then choosing a child or someone totally unrelated to our heroine would be best. There is a reason Darcy and Lizzy are still living wonderfully and in love. It is because Jane knew not to messy up a room with nervous energy. Let the room stay still and move on to the gardens. There are always weeds to pull if you are looking.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Passion's Poison By D M Warner Lexi Post has done it again. After the success of Masque, Post has released Passion's Poison and found the perfect recipe for creating hot exciting stories. Did I say hot? I meant scorching. Lexi Post takes a story from classic literature--in this case, Hawthorne's Rappaccini's Daughter, a tale about a mad scientist who actually makes his daughter poisonous--adds a 20th century descendent of the original Beatrice Rappaccini, who's name just happens to be Bea as well then adds one incredibly hot logger turned chainsaw artist. She adds heaping dollops of some incredible sex (and I do mean incredible!) and the following ingredients: a former boyfriend who's still in love with Bea, six fathers who want to protect her, a mother who is still living the hippie lifestyle, a cop who wants her for his own and a series of threatening letters. Now, blend in the part that gives Passion's Poison its unique flavor - Bea must have sex in a series of one night stands to release her poison so she doesn't die, making her partners ill in the process. Stir until messy. Very messy and voila! Passion's Poison is the perfect soufflé of mystery, angst, and great sex, all wrapped up in a deeply satisfying Happily Ever After ribbon. Well done, Ms. Post!

Romancing the Book Review By Romancing the Book Reviewed by Melissa DBook provided by Ellora’s CaveReview originally posted at Romancing the BookPassion’s Poison by Lexi Post is not part of a series. After reading the summary, I was hooked. I just had to read this book! I had never read a book with this kind of premise and I could not wait to see how it would turn out.Beatrice Rappaccini has an illness that most would not understand and if doctors or scientists found out, she could be turned in to a human guinea pig. She needs sex to survive and she makes her partner sick once she has sex with them. It makes for having a normal life extremely hard. Beatrice seems to have a hard time with her conscience and just wants a normal life. Beatrice’s motives were not just realistic but one I could sympathize with.Zach Woodman is an artist who uses a chainsaw to create his art. He is a hot and sexy man who is fascinated by Beatrice. She is not what he expects and the more he finds out about her life the more he is hooked. The chemistry between Zach and Beatrice is blistering hot. I could appreciate the fact that Beatrice was willing to die than have sex with another random stranger. I loved that Zach was willing to save her at the risk of his safety. The sex scenes were hot and spicy. This book was fabulous. Overall, it was an interesting tale, one that sticks with you well after you finish the book. What this book does very well is make you think about the future and what scientists are doing when they play with our DNA. I will be looking for more books by Ms. Post in the future.

Don't let the intense, intimate scenes convince you this is all the story has to offer. Lexi Post added suspense and thrills that will keep you up late trying to solve Beatrice's issues. The multiple suspects keep you guessing and you'll be just as surprised as I was at the outcome.Although the sexy scenes may bring a blush to your cheeks it is done in a tasteful way. The growing intensity of Beatrice and Zack's relationship comes across in a natural progression so it won't scare you off. Even with her curse, Beatrice has come to cope with Zack being there to offer other options but will Beatrice take this path offered or will she continue on the course she has set for herself? Beatrice's mother and grandmother play significant roles in the book and make her character that much more relatable. Although the encounters with them are spread throughout the story, they are important to understanding the history of the curse.Lexi Post does a terrific job tying in Nathaniel Hawthorne's original story, Rappaccini's Daughter. The concept of using generations stemming from Hawthorne's original characters is a unique model that Lexi Post has written to perfection. Passion's Poison is a wonderful, hot and captivating story that will surely have you up late.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. "A Yokai's eyes are always clear like glass. Neither good nor evil exists in them. Their eyes reflect their true intentions." By Leaf I received this early from a preorder at Rightstuf. Review is also on Goodreads. Very slight spoilers. I just go a little more indepth than the synopsis does.DISCLAIMER:If you have triggers, please be careful with this volume. Chapter 107 is very controversial and I believe this was handled maturely, but it will make some people very uncomfortable. Nanami is not raped, but she does get assaulted by Kirihito, and it is very hard to read for the few panels that are presented.Nanami has been growing as a character, and as such, I was expecting something to test her greatly. This is one of the darkest volumes Kamisama Kiss has presented. That gorgeous cover I praised earlier before reading disguises a volume that has a very controversial chapter. It begins with Tomoe and Nanami going to school and both of them realizing that in order to become a part of society, your academic standing holds a lot of power of you. This is very true in Japanese culture. Nanami wants to go to her first and last school trip with her class and after Mikage demands that she score 80% on all her tests to go, she studies diligently. We get to see Tomoe's thoughts regarding Nanami which adds a lot to their relationship. And it looks like Ami x Kurama might happen :DThen the volume changes when Nanami leaves with her class. A storm is brewing and their flights are cancelled. When Ami is kidnapped by Unari, claiming that Kirihito has stolen the Robe of Feathers from her, Nanami must agree to return it lest Ami remain a prisoner.Kirihito's life is slipping and he needs to get his body back. With the Robe of Feathers he can do so, but he is dying. He asks that Nanami be taken to him. Only she can help preserve what little life he has left-but in doing so, Nanami will likely die. Nanami is not stupid. She would do what any person would given her situation. She is forced to help him, and from there, the controversial moment I mentioned happens. The way it was handled is to let the readers realize that Kirihito/Akura-Oh is NOT a good person. If you were a fan of him like I was, it finally is clear that he will never change. He is selfish, vain and a brat. And I can guarantee you that this pairing will never happen. I don't understand why fans assume that any forced kiss or something like that means love. That is sexual assault, and the author makes it clear to the reader that this is not something we should be praising in manga. So many shoujo glamorize assault as being love, but this series draws the line. Nanami is not just kissed here. I will not go into details, but if you still ship these two, I cannot agree with you.If he were to start changing his life, doing his best to right his wrongs, etc. then I could consider him in a positive light. In volume 7 we saw that he was dealing with a lot of turmoil and I was invested in him. But he shows his true colors too many times later on for me to root for him.I am so glad that this series is not glorifying harassment or trying to make d-bag guys out to be love interests. This is a great example of a shoujo series that does it right.

And I like seeing Tomoe being possessive of her, protective, but with a purpose now. They just make me happy. The first part of this volume, we get to see the group relaxed, back at school and home. Studying to pass a test in order to go on a school trip. And then they go on the school trip, and some problems happen. Kirihito shows back up, and he needs Nanami’s energy in order to survive. I don’t like the way he gets it from her, and the problems that causes for Tomoe. Then, because of him, Nanami’s human friend gets captured. I like the development this gives to Nanami’s human life, and that she has such a good friend she’d sacrifice for.I don’t like Kirihito at all, though, which makes me happy about the cliffhanger. Tomoe is gonna take care of business, ya’ll. I’m looking forward to that.A solid volume. I’m so excited with where this series is going, and it’s always a delight to have a new volume.[More of my reviews are available on my blog, Geeky Reading, to which there's a link on my profile.]

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Don't make deals with mermaids! By Kat Lyn In this volume, Nanami and Tomoe both challenge each in becoming more academic to start with. Their rewards are being able to go on the school trip to Okinawa. Mizuki, Nanami's snake shinshi guardian, also now gets to help out at her school. I get the feeling this will bring along some more hijinks. Later things turn dire. Nanami's friend, Ami, is kidnapped. Nanami has to make some dangerous bargains to retrieve her. Picking up more in action with Kirihito's return, and now I wonder if there will be a showdown between them? Leaves me wondering on the next volume.

When seventeen-year-old Delilah Swan hitchhikes home with a carful of college boys, it’s the last straw for her single father, who over the past four years has watched her spiral further out of control. With no idea how to help her, he sends her away to live with California relatives she hasn’t seen or talked to in six years, with hopes they might reform her. The Kylers live in wine country, and in all their expensive attire and blindingly white house they couldn’t seem more different than Delilah. From her cousin Dylan, who appears to have made it his mission to hate her, to Aunt Miranda, who tries too hard to please everybody, Delilah knows she has her summer cut out for her. That’s why, when offered a job to work at a local record store, she jumps at the chance for the daily temporary escape. But Delilah can’t escape everything. When she meets Aiden Crosser, a boy who insists on seeing the better sides of her—sides she claims she doesn’t have—the stone walls she long-ago constructed around her heart begin to crumble. And this, more than anything else in the world, scares her. Despite every desperate thing she does to keep those walls up, there is something more to Aiden that calls to her time and again and begs her to let him in. But Delilah was hurt in the past—badly. And ever since, all she’s ever wanted is to feel numb, to live amid all the shadows beyond the light, and to never hand a person her heart again. Her youth has been spent thinking she will never be able to move past the history that haunts her. Only now does she begin to realize that maybe in order to move on, it’s not letting go of what hurt her but facing it head on. (An Upper YA novel due to profanity, underage drinking, and sexual situations)

For Dr. Grete Bibring, a close friend of Anna Freud and herself a noted psychoanalyst, the dinner table was a place of order and civility in a brutal and harshly competitive world. In Vienna where she was raised, these dinners provided a sense of comfort and community in a city that was becoming increasingly hostile to Jews. In the U. S., they initially helped orient her to unfamiliar terrain. They were a comfort to others as well as to Grete. They nurtured bonds of friendship, loyalty, and collegiality in good times and in bad ones. They provided a continuity between past and present, a bridge between what Grete knew and what she had yet to learn. For 50 years (1927-1977), Grete Bibring kept notes on the dinner parties she gave, what she served and whom she invited. Her young dinner guests in Vienna were to become the world’s foremost analysts. She fled the Nazi occupied Vienna, along with the Freuds, only to endure the nightly bombings of London. Nevertheless, she continued her dinner parties there (more modest and fewer) – ones to which Melanie Klein and her followers were not invited. Arriving in Boston in 1940, she quickly became a revered teacher and was appointed first woman professor at HMS. Her entertainments change as she meets new colleagues and tries to adapt to American tastes. This new biography of Grete Bibring is accompanied by previously unpublished photographs of her and her colleagues, brief accounts of her guests’ lives, and 11 authentic recipes from her table. "This book offers a peerless opportunity to do exactly what the authors do: follow Grete Bibring from the 19th century world of Vienna to its reincarnation at the Window Shop on Brattle Street, using menus, recipes and guest lists to illuminate an extraordinary life." ~ Laura Shapiro, author of Perfection Salad: Women and Cooking at the Turn of the Century.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. TASTY READ By Dr. Harriet I. Basseches An imaginative approach to biography, this little gem is a must read for psychoanalysts and historians. While seemingly “light reading” about Grete Bibring’s life long penchant for entertaining, the biography invites the reader into the living rooms of Viennese intellectuals and the psychoanalysts surrounding Freud. This was the period during which Institutional life was forming around Freud at the same time as the rise of Nazi Germany. We learn about the perilous flight for many of this cohort of Jewish origin who escaped to England and eventually to the United States, particularly to the Boston area. Many of the founding luminaries of the psychoanalytic movement are featured as they are entertained by Grete Bibring. The biography, moreover, is truly a window into an amazing and talented woman psychiatrist/psychoanalyst whose strength of character, courage and humor are wonderful to discover. Her entertaining in good times and bad captures her capacity to focus on these civilities and ability to hold on to her values independently of how frightening or trying the circumstances. For this reviewer, it was a special treat to get to know something of this powerful woman’s world as a psychoanalyst and émigré. In closing, I would add that the recipes included represent classic Viennese cooking and baking – guaranteed delicious!Review by Dr. Harriet I. Basseches.

It describes the life of an eminent Viennese psychoanalyst and her journey through London to Boston, Massachusetts. And it does this through her own archival records of dinner parties Doctor Bibring gave during her life: who she invited and what she served. What a gift this little book is. We see Freud's circle in Vienna and what happened to each of them, and we also see a cultural history told through food, as Doctor Bibring adapts her menus from times of plenty in Vienna through persecution and hardship and to the different tastes and recipes of the Americans who are her guests in Boston. Wonderful photographs as well. Congratulations to the authors and to the Boston Pyschoanalytic Society and Institute for this innovative look at the life of a very courageous and gifted woman.- Kathleen SpivackUnspeakable Things, Alfred A. Disappointed By Djcblue Well I waited awhile to write this review ... this book, although packed full of salad recipes was sadly not edited very well. Several misspellings, the same salad recipe copied four times, no serving sizes listed, and no index to speak of really brought the score down. Disappointed all around as I could have easily found any of these recipes online. Would not recommend you waste your time buying this one.

George Author and Reno resident George Wilson describes Reno as “an overgrown cow town.” Yet, he also shows in his collection of short stories, “A Neon Glow in the Night,” that Reno, Nevada is a town full of contrasts, from the difficulty of living in a homeless shelter to trying to get work at a day labor agency to sitting at a college library, reading western philosophy. As a 15-year resident of the “biggest little city in the world,” I can write that Wilson does a great job of capturing what it is like to live in Reno with a limited income. He mentions places and people I know.Full disclosure: I helped Wilson edit this book, provided the cover photo, and formatted the book for print. That said, he already paid me, so I can say what I want. The book contains nine short stories, all revolving around Wilson’s life in Reno. From cab driver to sleeping in a shelter to dealing with self-satisfied volunteers at a mission food bank, he relates his experience, dropping his feelings and a few philosophical references along the way. He does a great job relating to us the types of characters that live in this town – Reno being a place full of colorful personalities.Ultimately, the theme of maintaining one’s humanity and intelligence during hardship is expressed through most, if not all of the stories. I know George has had a tough time in Reno; yet, he is a friendly, intelligent person more interested in discussing political science, literature, and philosophy than complaining about his life. This is a good, bordering on great collection of experiences and characters that give the reader the experience of living in this “overgrown cow town,” which many of us call home.

It has been three months since Leona Hewitt dumped the body of her crush’s younger sister in the woods, praying he would never find out who did it. It has been three hours since she led him back to her rotting corpse. And three minutes since she showed up in Leona’s bedroom, alive. The culprit is a living substance secreted by a meteorite that can make people invisible . . . and apparently bring them back from the dead too. But something is terribly wrong with the girl claiming to be Ashley Lacroix. She doesn’t sleep. Sometimes, when she thinks no one is listening, she talks to someone who isn’t there. She says her soul has been eaten. She says Leona must die. Now, evading an unseen enemy, Leona must dig up the startling truth behind Ashley’s death before an insidious creature claims its next victim. Only the truth may be more chilling than she ever could have imagined. And the next victim may be herself.

By Casey Carlisle Actual rating 2.5 stars.I still enjoyed all the elements in ‘Of Starlight’ that I had from the debut of the series, ‘Translucent,’ but there was a whole arena of problems that affected ‘Of Starlight’ which had me shaking my head. Still, a fun science fiction romp with lots of potential. Some aspects of story that were introduced did not make sense and did not flow. I felt like this installment was missing the touch of a content editor. There were so many illogical happenings I was practically growling with frustration. Simple obvious solutions to many situations our protagonist and her best friend, Leona and Megan faced were overlooked.Additionally, Leona and Megan felt immature. I wanted the experience to age them, they were after all, dealing with life and death situations, so some seriousness was called for. Though I did like the moments of comedy dispersed throughout – like their puns and a few slapstick moments – it broke the tension when it was needed. I would have loved to have like to gotten more of this, in context. The relationship between Leona and Emory did not feel real, unlike the previous book, Leona’s behavior fell into insta-love or stalkery territory. It was making me cringe a little.Dan Rix did a great job in creating tension and his action scenes are fantastic to read, I just wish the story wasn’t so disjointed and the plot better thought-out. This read like a first draft. There were so many storytelling devices that could have been improved.I’m also at a loss at what this book was supposed to achieve – it didn’t drive the plot forward too much and I got a sense we were treading water until some really good stuff is going to happen (we can only hope) in books 3 & 4.The potential for this to be an outstanding book was there, it just fell so, so short of the mark. We need an intelligent read and challenging plot lines in science fiction, otherwise it reads like really bad fan fiction.I’m hoping this trend doesn’t continue in the following books, ‘Ash and Darkness’ and ‘Slaying Shadows’ because Leona is a bold, sassy and intelligent heroine; and the set up of her and Emory’s relationship lends itself to some great tension and possibility of a redemption story.Stay tuned to see whether I feel if this series delivers on all my hopes.

YA Sci-fi of the first book chillingly shifts into horror By Peter Tarsi I recently read, reviewed, and thoroughly enjoyed Translucent, the first book in this series. It was a great mixture of teen angst, mystery/thriller, science fiction (with enough actual science to satisfy this physics teacher), and symbolism. There was a strong character arc—Leona’s search for a way to absolve herself from guilt—that cleverly utilized the major plot device of the meteorite containing dark matter that can make things invisible. The cliffhanger was chilling and there were enough open mysteries to entice me to read the sequel, which starts immediately following the events of the first part.I try to keep my reviews spoiler-free, but when reviewing a sequel, I may have to mention plot elements revealed in the previous book. You have been warned.Leona and her friend Megan had used the dark matter for a variety of reasons in the first book, and Leona was convinced that it was somehow communicating with her. But what if they weren’t the only or the first people to wrap it around themselves? What if the military who had “decontaminated” Leona’s room to contain the dark matter were instead collecting it? What if the collection of dark matter could be connected to the family of Emory Lacroix, Leona’s crush?Emory’s supposedly dead younger sister Ashley has mysteriously returned after three months, but she’s developed odd behavior. She’s not eating, not sleeping, and not liking her brother’s would-be girlfriend Leona, going so far as to demand he stay away from her. Naturally, Leona uses the dark matter to investigate, only to see that Ashley has some dark matter of her own.It seems that the dark matter is affecting these characters in very different ways. Leona is convinced it’s communicating with her, and the more often and longer she wears it, it causes her not only to be invisible but occasionally intangible. Meanwhile, whenever Megan removes the dark matter from her body, it leaves marks on her skin—and I deduced what the marks were before her dermatologist did. And then there’s the effect that dark matter has had on Ashley…or whoever/whatever Ashley is. Creepy.Where Translucent was primarily driven by Leona’s internal conflict dealing with her guilt, Of Starlight is primarily driven by the external conflict between Leona and Ashley. It’s a stark contrast to the first book because it establishes a very clear villain. There’s a fight scene between them while they’re both invisible—which would never work in a visual medium such as a movie or TV show—but it works extremely well here because of Rix’s choice to tell the story in Leona’s first person. The scene is gripping and vividly described.Along with this shift in the conflict is a slight shift in the genre of the story from science fiction towards supernatural horror, and I missed the scientific discussions about refraction and such from the first book. When the dark matter “spoke” to Leona in Translucent, it served as a symbol of Leona’s inner voice trying to make her confront her guilt. In Of Starlight, when the dark matter “speaks,” the inference is that it’s a malevolent entity.I also found it missing some of the intertwined mysteries and symbolism of the first book. There weren’t as many new exciting twists and turns, and Leona seemed to repeat certain thoughts a few too many times. It was still an exciting page turner, and the primary story arc is sufficiently resolved to earn its cliffhanger, which was at least as shocking as how the first book ended. I’ve already downloaded the third part, Ash and Darkness, onto my Kindle and am looking forward to starting it. As good a book as the second part was, I felt it wasn’t as tightly wrapped as the first part, so I’m giving it a rating of FOUR AND A HALF Of Starlight.

The book picks up where the first left off, and doesn't let up on the intensity. We learn more about the girls' dark secret and the asteroid's as well. I highly recommend this series. Warning: if you are one of those people who get all uppity about cliff-hanger endings, you have two choices: don't read the first book or buy the whole series at once. I'd recommend the second action.

Spirit and I wrote this book to help bring spiritual awareness into people's lives, and to share my story of what I have learned spiritually. All the suffering I have had in my life has been a real blessing. Suffering is one of the greatest things that can happen to us, it brings us closer to God. I have learned a lot about what the Catholic Church is hiding. The biggest secret the church doesn't want you know is that finding God is an individual right not an institutional one. If you want to find God through Jesus' message it is with meditation and deep prayer. The purpose of life is to find God within yourself. We are all god's, I like to call us little g's. I hope my message will help people start their own spiritual path. I hope we can all find God together. God bless!

About the Author

I was born into a loving middle class family in Lansing, Illinois. I was raised with the teachings of the Catholic Church and have been searching for God since 2008. I have read hundreds of books and most other religion's bibles, but none of the books led me to God. Meditation is one of the things I really enjoyed doing throughout these past seven years. It has showed me the true path toward God. I started into the painters union at 19 years old and today I work for myself as a painting contractor. I live with my wife Kim and our two children Nolan and Caden, in Northwest Indiana.
