All the truth - all the time By Gus Philpott I started reading St. Mary's Today in about 2008 and especially liked the hard-hitting, straight-forward commentary on drunk drivers and crooked politicians. Ken tells it like it is. If you can't handle the harsh reality of the damage done by drunks, druggies and crooks, do your reading elsewhere. The Chesapeake Today continues to report, often in a humorous fashion, what you won't find in other media. It's too bad that Rossignol can't be cloned and set up in all major areas of the U.S. Maybe then the people of this country would wake up and scream, "Enough, already!" Keep up the good work, Ken.

Real First Amendment Freedom of Press Lives in The Chesapeake Today By Grandpa As the nation's massive drug-and-violence plague continues to proliferate in the schools and communities throughout Southern Maryland, The Chesapeake Today is the only publication pulling the cover off the faces of the hapless criminals caught up in enslavement to mind altering substances. Many of those criminal drug users, pushers and violent thugs publicized in The Chesapeake Today are as much victims of the drug traffickers and the public officials who enable them, as are the innocent child addicts and drug-disabled schoolchildren. Most crime is drug- and alcohol-related and starts with the early introduction and addiction of schoolchildren to addictive substances as is confirmed in student drug-use surveys. Such drug-related destruction of SMC citizens and their families is seldom publicized in the mainstream news media. Thus covering up the failure of local public officials to protect our families from the horrific results of out-of-control drug use and violence in our schools and communities. A glaring example is in the government's failure to report and follow up on the heroin death of a 16-year-old SMC schoolchild last Christmas. After all this time, we still don't know the details of this child's death including if anyone was charged with providing the deadly drug to the child. And because of this failure, many more schoolchildren will be starting school this fall seriously endangered from drugs and violence in our schools. This opinion could never see the light of day in other Southern Maryland media thus showing the stark contrast between this gutsy paper and the wimp media. and of that failure of our local and state government to protect our citizens from drugs that poison the brains of our citizens causing such misbehavior among hapless addicts.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. the great Editor of the Washington Post for so many years By DBW86 Since the St. Mary's Today was purchased and then deliberately shut down, Southern Maryland has been devoid of any REAL newspaper reporting. All 3 of the newspapers there refuse to expose any of the "Good Ole Boy" back room deals or call out any other wrong doing. Ken Rossignol has again taken up this badly needed public service in his publishing of "The Chesapeake Today"! Ben Bradlee, the great Editor of the Washington Post for so many years, and a local resident, was a great admirer of the old St. Mary's Today. Were he still alive today I'm sure he would be equally supportive of "The Chesapeake Today". Yes the verbiage used in the paper is shocking! Unlike the "PC" news media Ken writes in the simple language used daily by most of his readers. No sugar coating, no tap dancing verbally, just the brutal, unvarnished, straight forward and honest truth! Some readers will be offended, especially those mentioned in his articles, but most of us who work hard daily appreciate getting the "straight" story and all the attempts to hide things from them by elected officials. Ken also knows where all "the bodies are buried and who buried them"!If you want nanby pamby, diluted and far left slanted news then "The Chesapeake Today" is not a paper you should purchase! It is also not the newspaper you will like if you are a law breaker or back room politician, BUT for everyone else it is a refreshing throw back to when the News Media was independent and free to print the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth!

Too hot to bake right now.The first part of the book teaches you lots of tricks to make better cupcakes even from mixes. I can see where in the past I made mistakes and what I was doing wrong.She has the tools she likes and why. Where she buys certain things or what type of stores to look for the items. What ingredients that she likes to use quality brands and why she stays away from store brands on certain items.These cupcakes are so creative. With different flavor combinations, for different themes. She tells you different ways you can display them, different ways she wraps them to go. There is so much information all through the book to help you make your cupcakes a thing of art.She takes regular cake mixes and adds things to them to flavor, too add moisture, color to make them special and easier.I can't decide which cupcakes I want to make first. I never thought of myself being able to add things in the center. Too be so creative with cupcakes.This book would make a great present for a wedding shower gift, college or for young mothers. Cupcakery doesn’t disappoint. From the gate, the author gives her story of becoming a baker, which I think is very important. Often times, we will read books from so-called experts without really knowing what makes them an expert.The author goes on to prepare bakers for the kitchen. She gives a list of utensils, and other baking essentials; some I had never thought of—such as a cupcake corer. I had never heard of such a thing until this book. But it is important to know that a cupcake corer is what bakers use to hollow out the middle of cupcakes. I even appreciated the little tidbit that hobby stores carry cupcake supplies and often send out money-saving coupons. I can’t tell you how many times, I’ve gotten an email from Michael’s with a coupon in it; that I deleted. I’ll never look at a Michael’s, JoAnne’s or Hobby Lobby coupon the same.The book is full of other resources and tips like toppings, toppers, packaging and transport of cupcakes. By beeg I bought this book (on Kindle) as another reference to wines and winemaking in general, always looking for something additional for my knowledge base. There is good general information in the book to help the novice in understanding the complexity of grape growing and the production of wine, with individual entries on many of the grape varieties used commercially in the world. However, without getting too lengthy, I was disappointed in several respects. The book contains errors, mostly small, but some glaring. For example, in the Italian grapes, there seems to be confusion in the identification of varieties and associated wines; this can be a difficult area given the very confusing varietal situation just being unraveled there, but it could have been more clearly researched. There are also statements, as if fact, that are actually uncertain or unknown, such as Sangiovese named after "Blood of Jove"; the actual source of the name is unknown. Also in the Sangiovese section, it is stated that the grape is the offspring of Ciliegiolo, when it is more likely to be the parent. In the Ciliegiolo entry, current knowledge is correctly stated; why the confusion?. Other errors are more significant; the authors state that Chianti Classico is one of the seven subdivisions of Chianti, a major mistake. It is a completely separate DOCG unrelated to the Chianti areas; not a fact which should be missed by established wine writers.I am more bothered by what I perceive to be personal bias in the comments made about quality. While we all have our own taste preferences, books such as this should at least acknowledge that the material reflects their own palate choices. In the grape variety section, this seems easily recognized in entries such as Aglianico, given barely a mention, although one of the finest age worthy red grapes of Italy, found in some of its finest wines. The producer list for Aglianico also fails to mention Fucci, one of its great producers, who just received a ninth consecutive Tre Bicchiere award for their Aglianico. Similar snubs and omissions, some with undeserved negative comment, are present throughout the grape variety section of the book, to its detriment.My suggestion would be to utilize the factual aspects of the book, but understand that some of the comments on grapes and wines are not widely shared by other experienced wine writers and regional experts, and that fact checking has been a bit lax; try the wines yourself to see how they please your own palate and do not expect everything to taste like cab or merlot (thankfully). Enjoy the diversity of wine from your own experience, not from the established, and frequently non-objective opinion of others.

My memoir is about me, a young woman who is living with a fatal neurodegenerative disease, Huntington’s Disease, but doing so passionately. My goal is to choose happiness each day, and some days being happy is easier than others. My disease is only a part of my life, it's definitely, not my whole life. Being diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease has positively affected my outlook on life and I strive to portray that in my memoir. About the Author I am a young women who is passionate about every thing I do in my life. I was born to be a teacher, but because of my Huntington’s Disease, I had to quit my job as a teacher. I now teach the world about my disease and will forever have a teacher’s heart. I use writing to deal with what I have been dealt and it’s very therapeutic for me.
