Homicide Detective Gideon Maguire’s second partner has been murdered in less than a week. Now he must solve two murders and a child’s kidnapping before he is arrested for a crime he didn’t commit. A mob enforcer has a crisis of conscience and turns on his masters. When his wife and daughter are brutally murdered, he kidnaps a drug kingpin’s daughter in an intricate plot for revenge. The kidnapping results in a series of attacks on registered sex offenders by gangsters hoping to find the girl and cash in on a huge reward. The incompetence of a mob boss’s heir apparent results in palace intrigues to discredit the young man. Vigilante torture and murder, extrajudicial executions, rigged dogfights, teenage sexting, murder, fabricated evidence, predatory pedophiles and a transvestite chanteuse are all involved. Nobody is innocent. They are all presumed guilty. Absolutely loved the intricate plot twists … The brutality and the grittiness that Cox was able to capture in some of these fascinating characters made for some excellent reading John J. Staughton This is an impressive reinforcement that Gino Cox is a man who knows how to write dialogue and pace an action story framed in the confines of the underworld. Grady Harp Wow.....this book was overflowing with action and memorable characters, the likes of which you rarely see in a thriller. Veritas Vincit "Bill" … an engrossing mystery. The characters are memorable, and the dialogue is vibrant Joyce Dahlberg Will hold your attention David Swainbank What a great story. Well written. Really love this author. Presumed Guilty, by Gino Cox

About the Author Gino Cox grew up in Wilmette, Illinois on Chicago's north shore. He studied economics at Rockford College and marketing at Northwestern University's J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He eventually moved to Malibu, California, where he worked for various entertainment companies, including a stint as general manager of Fleshwound Films, a company that produces extreme sports videos and live events, and is credited as production manager for Crusty Demons: 9 Lives. While in California, he wrote, directed and produced a series of comedies for cable television and wrote several screenplays that received critical success in several minor competitions. One of the comedies he wrote and produced was "Love Spells," which he wrote entirely in iambic pentameter. Gino has also appeared on stage in minor roles as an actor (three productions, eighty performances) and dancer (two productions, three performances). While The Black Pill is Gino's first novel, based on his screenplay by the same title, it is not his first story, and benefits from his prior experience writing screenplays and writing/directing comedies. As reviewers have noted, it reads like a movie in that it is highly visual and tightly paced. Gino now lives, works and writes in Southeast Asia. One of his avocations is writing and producing language instruction videos in Thai and Tagalog which can be viewed on his YouTube channel.

The dialogue had me feeling as if I were actually a part of the story, and even when I wasn't reading the book I was still thinking about it, and wondering what was going to happen next. It definitely has twists and turns and kept my attention constantly. This author must have personally experienced some of these crazy things or researched them heavily, because the story is super detailed and convincing. Overall, GREAT read!

Staughton Absolutely loved the intricate plot twists of Cox' novel, and while I do feel like there were some weak points, particularly when the plot began to stretch away from the main bent of the story, it remained a well-composed and executed story. The brutality and the grittiness that Cox was able to capture in some of these fascinating characters made for some excellent reading, and I felt like Cox had some personal experience in some of these particular "circles". Not to say that he was a drug dealer, a gangster, a murderer, or anything like that, but the realism of the dialogue, the goings-on of criminal organizations, and the general darkness to much of the writing smacked of personal experience. I suppose that is what all great authors seek.Gideon was an absolute legend to read, but I occasionally felt distracted away from him by the other things going on in the story. Complex sub-plots are one thing, but there were some loose ends that never quite felt tied up, or that they were left to die a bit - like red herrings that Cox forgot about. All in all, I can't criticize too heavily, because I thoroughly enjoyed the read, but I have to be honest. A good final edit would have been appreciated as well, as certain scenes could have been strengthened, while others shortened or cut entirely. I would definitely pick up other books from this author, as he definitely has entertaining talent in abundance.

Thrilling and Suspenseful From Top to Bottom By Veritas Vincit Wow.....this book was overflowing with action and memorable characters, the likes of which you rarely see in a thriller. Typically, these stories are predictable in their crime niche, but with mob heirs, informants, sex, drugs, murder, conspiracy, back-stabbing, and more intrigue than one book should be able to hold, Cox knocks this story out of the park. Maguire is the "hero" figure, but he has a decidedly dark edge to him, one that makes him fit into this noir genre perfectly. He isn't afraid to bend the rules to get the job done, and he's desperate to do anything to clear his name. When the story becomes more complicated, however, and he becomes embroiled in the overlapping story lines, we realize that he may not be able to keep his name clear. I enjoyed how my focus was pulled to all the different plots, and all of them showed a dedication to good character development and suspense, never giving away too much to the reader. Cox didn't assume that we were dumb, which some thrillers tend to do, and I appreciated the vote of confidence. I'll definitely be checking out more of this action-packed author's work.
