With this e-book, we explore into details, the escalation of poaching and its effects towards the current surviving species explaining using the current true facts of details based on the approved reports and updated records. The cry of Elephants captures the tears of the animals, sweat and efforts of the rangers, challenges and constrains they go through saving this animals. Poaching of African elephants for ivory is a major concern throughout Africa. It acts as an immediate threat responsible for the decline of African elephants at alarming rates across many African range countries. Poaching here is defined as illegal killing of elephants for ivory but also for meat. Elephant poaching occurs at an alarming rate as a result of high demand for illegal ivory in consuming nations of Asia, particularly China and Thailand. Rising in poaching has been attributed by the increased market demand, political instability, armed militias and criminals. This Act (poaching) is done through evolved mechanisms from old mechanism to the new and sophisticated modern mechanisms. Poaching has an effect on the population structure of elephants. Elephants are known to have complex social structures. Poachers target adult animals with the largest tusks, i.e. old bulls and matriarch for bigger profits, with important consequences for females and males resulting to breakdown of social structures among the surviving members of elephant societies. Females suffer a lot as a result of a loss of their social partners thus causing reduction of their fitness. However, for the male: poaching seems to reduce the age of first reproduction and lead to increased reproductive skew. As results their genetic diversity is lost from natural populations. Resistance Army, are now using elephant poaching as a means to sustain itself. While their leader’s orders their fighters to bring them elephant tusks. They trade in tusks for much needed resources such as food, weapons and ammunition, and other supplies. One shocking and most amazing thing is the presence of some open market within the Africa countries. By 2012, Ivory can be found openly on display in markets and shops in many African cities, such as Khartoum, Kinshasa, Lagos, and Luanda, as well as in certain Asian cities. Most of these markets operate with impunity due to lack of law enforcement action, and often in blatant disregard of national legislation prohibiting trade in illegal ivory. These markets are now reaching their target consumers more directly, given the increasing numbers of Chinese citizens living or working in Africa, whether on short term contracts for infrastructure projects and resource extraction or as long term residents who frequently travel between Africa and Asia. Consumer demand for illegal ivory and the prevalence of unregulated or insufficiently supervised markets open up opportunities for profit by transnational criminal networks.
