Forgiving them would be like, everyone supposedly forgets about it By Denise Wells Being the subject of part of Nikki’s story I wanted to touch on the subject of “forgiveness.“ Both of my abusers asked me for it. I said no. But I really did not understand why I felt so strongly about it, and now I think I do. Forgiving them would be like, everyone supposedly forgets about it, they are off the hook, they can move on, and supposedly everyone else involved can also move on. Everyone supposedly feels great and relieved. Can now hide behind Jesus and hope it all is forgotten, and continue in the faith and not be bothered by how it has affected anyone; maybe even start anew in a church that doesn’t know. Maybe even become a Pathfinder leader again. For those who are not familiar, Pathfinders are the ersatz scouting club provided by the church for 10-14 year olds. The repercussions of the abuse however are never over for those involved, for both the family of the abused and the family of the abuser. Depressions, drug abuse, divorces, loss of life through suicide are some of the major severe side effects. I did make one stipulation that I would consider forgiving the abusers only if they themselves stepped up and bravely wrote about why they did what they did and how it has affected their lives and their families lives as bravely as Nikki has in this piece. So far no takers on that proposition. They still just go on preaching that Jesus forgives, nothing to see here.
5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Too true, unfortunately. By Amazon Customer Sadly, this is very similar to what I went through too, when I followed my conscience. I lost "friends", my community, and emotional and spiritual support, when I needed it the most. They all gathered around my abuser. Thank goodness, I was able to regain my connection to the Divine in ways very different than my life-long indoctrination had taught me. I love the bumper sticker-"Dear God, please protect me from your followers."

By Steve Smith As an ex SDA I was shocked and excited we felt a lot of same terrible experiences in the messed up world of Adventism. She let it all out and is in a better place as a person. Her story is not over. I can't wait to hear it someday.
