Stereotypes, sexuality, and destructive rumors collide in this smart YA novel for fans of Sara Zarr’s Story of a Girl, Siobhan Vivian’s The List, and E. Lockhart’s The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks.When Rebecca Rivers lands the lead in her school’s production of The Crucible, she gets to change roles in real life, too. She casts off her old reputation, grows close with her four rowdy cast-mates, and kisses the extremely handsome Charlie Lamb onstage. Even Mr. McFadden, the play’s critical director, can find no fault with Rebecca.Though “The Essential Five” vow never to date each other, Rebecca can’t help her feelings for Charlie, leaving her both conflicted and lovestruck. But the on and off-stage drama of the cast is eclipsed by a life-altering accusation that threatens to destroy everything…even if some of it is just make believe.

Like It Never Happened, by Emily Adrian

From School Library Journal Gr 9 Up—Beautiful and talented Rebecca Rivers is the star of her high school's theater department. She, along with four other thespians, who call themselves The Essential Five), take the stage and their roles very seriously. But being the star has a dark side. Many of her classmates think Rebecca is untouchable, a golden child who is somehow immune to critique from the demanding director. Then the protagonist and her leading man, the handsome and charismatic Charlie, begin dating. From the outside, her life seems to be something out of a fairy tale. But as Rebecca grows as an artist, she also matures in her relationships in the real world, and she realizes that performance isn't just actors on a stage. Intermingled with past trauma, a fraught home life—including a sister she hardly knows—a boyfriend who isn't always who he appears to be, and a disastrous false accusation, Rebecca's story is about complex interpersonal relations for which there are no easy answers. Readers are shown from the start that she is serious and thoughtful but a bit shortsighted. VERDICT This title will satisfy thinking readers, namely fans of E. Lockhart and of realistic teen fiction that invokes drama without melodrama.—Jennifer Miskec, Longwood University, Farmville, VA

Review * "Original and intriguing; a powerful debut."—Kirkus Reviews, starred review "Will satisfy thinking readers, namely fans of E. Lockhart and of realistic teen fiction that invokes drama without melodrama."—School Library Journal"What begins as a story of teen romance soon develops into much more...For readers who enjoyed E. Lockhart’s Dramarama and Raina Telgemeier’s Drama."—Booklist"Fans of contemporary novels with mysterious undercurrents, like E. Lockhart’s We Were Liars, or readers looking for something realistic with a little weight to it will find what they are looking for here."—VOYA"Balancing masterful comedic timing with a thoughtful presentation of controversial topics, first-time novelist Adrian’s writing brims with authenticity and compassion."—Publishers Weekly"[Emily Adrian's] slice of life high school story mimics the structure of a play, a young adult homage to the spectacle of the stage."—The National Post"Adrian writes with a light but perceptive touch, favouring realism over melodrama and creating a comfortably compelling read worthy of comparisons to YA royalty Sarah Dessen and Sara Zarr."—The Globe and Mail"This novel makes an interesting study in rumors and reputation, as well as an ultimately positive portrayal of a conflicted but resilient and independent teen. It’ll be a lively read for theater folks, sure, but an even better one for those worried about their reputations."—BCCB

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. a good young adult read By Michelle@Book Briefs 3.5/5 starsLike it Never Happened is a young adult contemporary book set featuring a high school drama troupe. A group of five friends and the story of their high school years. I really enjoyed reading Like it Never Happened. It reminded me of 90s shows like Salute your Shorts and Clarissa Explains it all, though I am not really sure why. It is set in contemporary 2014/2015, but it really felt like a 90s throw back to me, and I totally loved that. Like it Never Happened is author Emily Adrian’s debut novel, which completely astounded me. She is an excellent writer, and she seemed so well practiced. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us readers next.Like it never happened follows a group of 5 best friends, and their trials and tribulations in the theater at their school. Right at the start of the book they make a pack to never date one another. But I knew that was going to change at some point. I was a little excited and a little disappointing all at once with the way things played out with Charlie. It was kind of bittersweet and all at once perfect (in a weird way.) My emotions ying yanged all over the place with this book. Emily Adrian did a fantastic job of capturing the essence of high school. I think that is why I had conflicting emotions. Even if something didn’t turn out the way I pictured it in my head, it felt so utterly real.I loved Rebecca so much. She was me in this book. I am nothing like her, but while I was reading Like it Never Happened I became her. It was pretty freakin’ cool. Charlie left me with mixed feelings. As did Tess a bit and Rebecca’s sister Mary. Like it Never Happened kind of reminded me of Never Always Sometimes by Adi Alsaid, but only a little bit. There are classically high school characters that are rich and each have very distinct personalities. And let’s not forget that they are all drama fanatics so there is a flair for the dramatic in Like it Never Happened, but this was such a great addition to the young adult genre. I really enjoyed Like it Never Happened.*Disclaimer- I got a copy of this book for free in exchange for my honest thoughts. I was not compensated for my review.

It reminded me a bit of Lauren Bjorkman's books in that it was set in the arena of theatre and with the same great writing but Ms. Adrian approach is more serious. The story is about the main character and narrator Rebecca entering high school and her experiences over the next 15 months which mainly focus on her 4 friends, all theatre people and called 'the essential five', as well as her older sister, previously wild and now settling down. What happens to Rebecca are (mostly) very normal things for someone as they enter adulthood, in this case; dealing with new friends, new romance, parents who seem out-of-touch, missing sibling. The observations of people, both teens and adults, interacting are sharp and subtle. I think that is one of the very many strengths of the writing - the teens act like teens, the adults like adults and Rebecca observes and interacts with both as a teen moving into adulthood.

I was like did Emily Arden read my teenage journals, no I’m totally kidding. I really enjoyed the book and for me it encompassed things that I have experienced so it was interesting. So this a group of theater kids and theater kids can be dramatic. When I was in High School my friend transferred to another school where she became a part of her own type of Essential Five. I was the token non-theater kid that would hang out with them periodically. They were fun and adventurous and often times very silly. I would hang out backstage and watch their plays. One of the guys passed away very young and I remember riding around in his truck that I can’t believe even worked. So this book found a soft spot in me pretty easily right off the bat. I felt like Emily easily captured the theater/art kid spirit and how it can be bonding and sometimes a little cut throat. You are all going for the star roles.I actually liked Rebecca, which I wasn’t sure if i was going to at first. She was so matter of fact and just who she was. I loved the confidence she exudes and the way she has her own mind. We find out some things that make you realize that she is not going to crack under pressure. She does have some growing up to do in the department of empathy. She does learn some things but still has growing up to do, she is only 16.At first I wasn’t so sure about the summer camp part but I realized as I kept reading how it had given definite input into Charlie. Rebecca too but mainly Charlie. The pieces of his personality just keep falling into place and normally I would be jealous of his relationship with Liane for Rebecca’s sake. I felt like she could do better and this is high school. There is so much time for so many greater things.I loved the way the book focused also on Rebecca and her relationship with her family. Her mother, father and sister. I have three older siblings, two of which are 10 & 12 years older than me (I know seriously I need to stop comparing this book to my own experiences but seriously!). My oldest brother was so similar to Rebecca’s sister! Except for one thing but it’s crazy. So I was so glad that we get to see how she had seen her sister when she was young and how her sister and her interact now. It was a mixture of how other people had wronged her sister but she had also wronged herself. A good example of how you see things in the moment and how you see things when you grow up.So the drama that happens later in the book, actually happened to a guy I know. So I felt like I was so angry for him all over again. Even when the truth came to light for him just like in the novel it changed him. I loved how Rebecca handles thing, even though she is the victim of rumors she is still confident and doesn’t let it break her. Which is a good quality to have as an actress.I really bonded with this book and maybe it was because there were multiple things that I was able to connect with life experiences, either I had or know people who have had. When I finished I felt like, that was a satisfying read. It’s hard for me to explain the writing type. It has that narrative that

A mother's story of how historic child sexual abuse can affect the lives of the victims. It shows the determination of a mother fighting the system and seeking justice. How she loses so much, but through her strength and tenacity, she faces the inevitable.

She supports her children at their time of need. When the trauma was buried deep within their subconscious; behaviour presents itself in an irrational manner. Being naive to this situation and not believing this could happen to her family, she has to learn fast in order to understand self-harm and suicidal thoughts. The people she meets along the way, help show her the path that can lead to a better understanding of why and how things must take their course.

She learned through heartache, how other people's feelings, can be transmitted in a totally different aspect, to the truth. Family and friends find it difficult to believe, others don't wish to be involved. At times the subject is taboo and it also shows the stigma towards mental health.

This book is written to help others, recognise when a young victim conceals the emotional pain and the conscious mind of the adult, is terrifi ed of acknowledging the abuse.

About the Author

Jennifer Colne resides in the UK in a little town close to the sea. She is divorced and happily lives with her mum, dogs and horses. Her spare time gives her a sense of well-being by supporting people who suffer with mental health problems. She has three grown up children and six wonderful grandchildren, of which one takes after her with a love for horses. Jennifer wrote this book for educational purposes to help others who may have experienced similar circumstances.

Child abuse of any kind can be detrimental to the adult victim. Irrational behaviour is uncontrollable and may need to seek professional advice. She wanted to let the perpetrators know, how their self gratification causes so much emotional pain for their victims.

Jennifer surprised herself of how much she enjoyed writing and is determined to carry on. Her next project is fictional, thus giving her a break from the emotional strain of having to write such sensitive material.

A must read for anyone that has been in this situation...this is from the mother of the victim's side and how it can tear a family apart.

By Tutter An amazing American success story that begins when the author was a small lad living in Tomball, Texas; then continues on with his "flight through life" while earning an overwhelming number of significant achievements. From a small town schoolboy to a decorated United States Air Force Major General who served in the Vietnam war as an Air Force pilot. His other important assignments included the Strategic Air Command, where he flew critical cold war missions on the plane known as "Looking Glass." After his military service, the author worked as Associate Director at the Los Alamos National Laboratory and as a senior executive with a firm that required him to spend much time in Russia, China, and other parts of the world. This book provides details of his early life and family, his military and civilian experiences which make for an easy and interesting read.

The rain sluiced off the roof and over the gutter in a solid sheet, battering through the leaves of the rubber trees, and a fine mist blew through the screen, cooling me briefly from the humid heat. Outside, water ran down the slope in front of the house and splashed over the tree roots. I’d arrived in Indonesia a stranger and a foreigner not long ago, but I was quickly growing to love this land, and struggling to find my place in it. There was so much need, both physical and spiritual…I watched the storm and pondered... From that moment my life unfolded into paths I never dreamed were possible, into a life that was, and continues to be, all that I have ever dreamed of.

Fox Creek, remote beautiful, and the site of an ancient old-growth forest, figures prominently in the author’s novels Fleeing Ohio and York’s Journal: A Novel. As a place experienced, remembered, and longed for, it is also the imaginative center of this memoir. In these pages an Oregon family’s relationships, worked out over many years and complicated by deep differences of personal, political and social belief, are the subject of thoughtful reflection and mature insight as the author travels the many roads that lead him back again and again to Fox Creek.

His novel FLEEING OHIO (2010) tells of a daring escape from a modern "supermax" prison, an escape that follows the Lewis and Clark Trail to Fox Creek. Home At Last, by Jan Sikes

About the Author Award winning author, Jan Sikes, began writing around the age of eight. The stories she writes (so far) are true stories about the journey of two people moving through adversity in order to grow and learn to become better humans. She believes with all her heart, there is something that is worthy of sharing in these stories. Bits and pieces of wisdom, hard-learned lessons and above and beyond all, love…True love that you read about in fiction stories…and yet this is truth. The old saying that truth is stranger than fiction fits the stories that she shares. The Convict and the Rose, her second book, was awarded as book of the year in the Fiction/Biography category by the Texas Association of Authors. She is passionate about her writing projects and is driven to tell a deeply personal story with the hope that it might touch someone’s heart or life in a positive way. She also releases a music CD of original songs along with each book that fits the time period of the story. Why? Because the stories revolve and evolve around a deep-rooted passion for music Jan resides in North Texas, has five grandchildren and in her spare time, loves to volunteer at Texas music festivals.

By Amazon Customer "Home At Last" is third in the series of the true life and love story of Jan and Rick Sikes. Jan shares her life and love for Rick and her daughters with a style that recreates west Texas living from the 60's thru early 2000. The books tell their story thru Darlina Flowers (Jan) and Luke Stone (Rick) in a series of books that begins with "Flowers & Stone" continues with "The Convict and the Rose" and life after prison with "Home at Last."I can't wait for "Till Death Do Us Part" that is scheduled for release in 2015. It will continue their life journey and appears to be the last in the Luke & Darlina Stone series."Flowers & Stone" captures their time in west Texas where they found each other while Rick and his band performed at Honky Tonk bars. The story captures the "hell raising" and true love they shared from the time they met until Rick's conviction for a bank robbery he did not commit."The Convict and Rose" continues their story while Rick was locked up in prison for his part in planning bank robberies. Rick's love for Jan and for music continues in prison where he convinces the warden at Leavenworth prison to let him build a recording studio for himself and other prisoners who desire to write and record their songs. Jan parallels her life while Rick survives the danger and despair of prison. She shares her attempt to move on with her life when she marries and starts her family with a man she tries to love. She struggles with her identity and cannot overcome her feelings for Rick. Her love for her two daughters as she becomes a single parent serves her well with Rick locked away from her heart."Home at Last" picks up their lives when Rick is released from prison in 1985. Their deep love for each other results in Jan's moving to Coleman TX to marry her true love within weeks of his release. Jan's writing makes it easy for her readers to experience the struggles of starting a new life after prison in a small dusty west Texas town. The family works together to make ends meet and details their successes and simple joy as they climb out of the very frugal life after prison. It is a great story of redemption and the power of love of family.I recommend the entire series for readers who want to experience a true love story that shows how caring for each other, commitment and working together results in lives well lived. Jan's passion for detail and raw style make this autobiography a must read!Chris Schartz - Kansas City

Hearts and home life are laid bare as Darlina and Luke's story is retold. I won this book in a competition and it's not my usual read, but I found the story compelling as it was true life, and I'm a sucker for true love with happy endings. Sacrifice, loss, and triumph. By Tina Frisco Love Abides and TriumphsOne of the elements that makes Jan Sikes’ novels so compelling is that they’re autobiographical. I was so moved by her second book, The Convict and the Rose, that I knew the third book in the trilogy would prove to be equally poignant.Luke Stone is finally released after spending 15 grueling years behind bars for something he didn’t do. Darlina Flowers meets him at the bus station, filled with anticipation and hope for the life together that was denied them when Luke was imprisoned. With little money and no home of their own, their deep and resolute love determines to imbue their lives -- and the lives of Darlina’s 2 young daughters -- with joy and meaning.Austerity greets them head-on, but Luke and Darlina never fail to ride the waves with conviction. They remain focused on carving out a better future and seldom look back on past obstacles or tragedies. Damaged and awkward family relationships in need of renewal are handled with warmth, hope, determination, and a sprinkling of raw veracity. When problems threaten to sabotage their happiness or undermine their stability, their solid love for one another always helps them prevail. The adversity they’re forced to deal with would crush a less immutable nature. But Luke and Darlina’s firm resolve, tenacity, and enduring love see them through the hard times as well as embellish the joyful times. This review might read like that of a fairy tale, but the characters depicted are real people, and this is their story. It’s both tragic and triumphant. It exhibits the depth the human spirit can reach in order to not only survive, but also thrive. And it exemplifies the long-held truth that believing makes it so. Energy follows thought. And Luke and Darlina show us how to manifest our heart’s desire.

About the Author Raelee May Carpenter is a Christian and an author of contemporary fiction, inspirational essays, and modern mythology. Her work is passionate, descriptive and just a little edgy. Raelee's three lifelong passions are faith, people, and words. She's a tone-deaf music fan and "Mumma" to a young-at-heart, rescued Beagle mix. When J.D. Dillon falls through the roof of the high school and lands next to Aine she is going to learn a lot about life and just what effect she can really have on others, including J.D., who turns out to be an orphan with a lot of horrific baggage from the past. I really enjoyed this book which is a life lesson in what we face in this world and maybe a lesson in how with a little christian charity we can change lives and make things better. The author did an amazing job with the characters in this novel and the book felt more like a real life look at relationships, religion and friendship. Great job by this author in a book that is not only intriguing but helpful by making readers think about how they would react in similar situations.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. The Lincoln High Project Scores Big By Author Stephanie Parker McKean Raelee May Carpenter’s Christian Young Adult, “The Lincoln High Project,” scores a perfect five-star rating for its brilliant mix of interesting, believable characters and a story line that never falters or drags. When J.D. falls through the ceiling at Lincoln High during Aine O’Brien’s choir practice, he adds a new layer to Aine’s “Lincoln High Project.” Aine wants to change her school. Actually, she’s out to change the world – starting with her high school. It would be a daunting task for anyone and is even more so for Aine who doesn’t know where to start or how to go about it, and who is not included in the “most popular” set at school. She starts with J.D. who has been abused and whisked around to different foster homes his entire life. He has never seen a Christmas tree inside a house, has never received a Christmas gift, and can’t stand to either be touched or to touch anyone. Aine O’Brien’s project seems doomed for failure, especially when J.D. turns to drugs in an attempt to forget the nightmare of his past.Further complicating Annie’s life is a decision she must make about the speech she delivers for her junior class. Does she go along with the pre-approved “dream theme” speech the school administration expects – or does she toss her notes and tell the truth: that only God can power our dreams to success? J.D. challenges both her faith and her courage as he waits to hear her answer.A horrific accident changes the junior class at Lincoln High forever. Annie’s project fast tracks itself through the school resulting in extraordinary changes to Aine, her friends, and her classmates.Although “The Lincoln High Project” is in the young adult genre, it is faultlessly written and is an enjoyable read for adults too. Raelee May Carpenter keeps readers engaged and entertained through characters, dialogue, and action. The twist at the end stitches “The Lincoln High Project” into a truly sound, delightful reading experience. At times, this reviewer forgot her place in time and space and found herself walking the halls of high school again, eagerly joining Aine, J.D., and our other friends to achieve a permanent passing grade on “The Lincoln High Project.”

It is hard to strike the balance between being overly preachy and relatable, and most Christian YA authors cannot do that. However, it seems that Raelee May Carpenter has the ability to change my mind. I worried at first when I started in on it, but the story is well-written and touches on a lot of issues that I wish were discussed more openly. The character development is strong, and I am always fond of reading a story about how two people find each other. I really give it 4.5/5.

In Revelation 9 the Holy Spirit is giving us a detailed picture of our human condition as a result of the Fall and how evil spirit entities take advantage of this fallenness to try to achieve their own evil purposes. A spiritual interpretation is given for each verse wherein is revealed the working of God to bring believers into the full stature life of the Lord Jesus Christ. The demons merely serve His purposes to uproot us out of our complacency into a concerted effort to know God at all costs, even death to self…the only thing that brings total victory. This interpretation is inward and allegorical rather than outward and literal. Each entity in the chapter represents something within us. The bottomless pit, for example, represents our sin nature. The smoke that arises from it is our pride which blinds our eyes to spiritual things (sun and air). The locusts with power like scorpions are demons that are permitted to torment us according to our pride and wrong thinking. Out of our torment we are to seek and obey God such that when humility and truth come into our understanding, the demons will lose any rights to torment further and will have to flee. The author has divided Revelation 9 into four segments: Segment One - vs. 1-6: Spiritual Problems Common to All People Segment Two - vs. 7-11: The Characteristics of Demons Segment Three - vs. 12-15: Coming into Perfection Segment Four - vs. 16-21: The Spirit Realm Opens This book gives many examples from the author’s life and ministry that illustrate the truths revealed in each verse. Descriptions include how she and her church have learned together how to discern the enemy’s imposters that come into our lives and churches to wreak havoc. These deceivers are absolutely undetectable by the natural eye and understanding. Only by the spirit can they be discerned but there are many injunctions in God’s Word that Christians ignore that are actually there to protect us from the Devil and his deceivers. Jesus warned us that false prophets would come into our churches; however, rarely are any discerned because our level of spiritual discernment is so low. Even without our discernment they would not be able to bring damage if we only obeyed God’s warnings clearly stated in Scripture but mostly ignored. The physical descriptions of the locusts in Revelation 9 are actually descriptions of the functions of demons. In these verses we learn where they get their power, how they affect our thinking, how they travel from place to place, things they can and cannot do, how to recognize their activity and many more interesting details about them. This chapter is not limited, though, to merely exposing demonic activity; it reveals how our godly response to demonic torment ultimately brings us into full maturity in Jesus Christ. Old partial and imperfect beliefs are exposed and removed in the process of maturing so that believers can understand the full truths of God that could not be received until this time. (“For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.”) At this point God can open to these believers the entire spiritual realm where demons and also God’s angels operate. This will enable these full-stature Christians to minister into the church of the end times with power and authority unmatched since Jesus Christ walked on earth two thousand years ago thus greatly accelerating the maturing process of the church at large. The end of the book provides Bible study questions for those wanting to delve into Revelation 9 for their own study.

Not only are the recipes delicious, but they are also fun to make. Last night my son and I spent hours making Sarma (stuffed grape leaves) with yogurt sauce. We bought all fresh ingredients from the local Fruit and Vegetable stand. After a couple of hours chopping, cooking and smelling we relished the eating of them. Oh my! So good. We recently made the Spinach Pie, and the the Tabouli salad. Fantastic. The cover is so pretty I keep this book on display in my kitchen.

There is background information on the foods and culture, and this makes it all the more interesting. I recommend this cookbook for anyone who wants to prepare wholesome food and step out of the rut of the usual American diet.

There are about 30 recipes and some of those, tho not many, are not armenian. I have purchased full cookbooks for the same price

Emma, who is half human and half Syrena, and her Syrena love, Galen, need time together. Alone. Away from the kingdoms of Poseidon and Triton. Emma's grandfather, the Poseidon king, suggests the two visit a small town called Neptune.

Neptune is home to both Syrena and Half Breeds alike. But Emma and Galen didn't sign up to be peacemakers between the ocean and land-dwelling, freshwater Syrena. They didn't bargain for meeting a charming Half Breed named Reed, who can barely disguise his feelings for Emma. And they especially didn't expect to find themselves in the middle of a power struggle that threatens not only their love but their ocean kingdoms.

In this stunning conclusion to her bestselling Syrena Legacy, Anna Banks thrills fans with more action and romance than ever.

Was even willing to give up his entire way of life to be with her. And when he expresses reservations and admits to what he really wants and she's like you really expect me to do that blah blag blah. And on top of that she betrays him and he forgives her. Unbelievable!!!!! I loved this series. But this was not how I wanted the series to end! Emma was ridiculously selfish and inconsiderate. Truthfully she always has been but this was it for me. I didn't mind so much in the previous books but this was too much. Ruined my view of perfectly decent relationship with that ridiculous unexpected and unwanted factor(s). This get two stars since it was most certainly not a pleasant read.

Better conclusion that I was expecting By Gabbie Why I Picked It UpI loved the first two novels in this trilogy so I had to see the conclusion to Galen and Emma’s story.PlotThis novel picks up a little bit after the last one. Emma and Galen travel to the town of Neptune where they discover a town where Syrena and Half-Bloods live in harmony with humans and swim in freshwater. While Emma feels a part of the little town, Galen hates it. After an argument, Galen leaves to tell Grom about the city and is kidnapped. Meanwhile, Emma stays and begins getting closer to a Half-Blood, Reed, until they get themselves into trouble as well.I enjoyed this novel even better than the others. The characters really got themselves into some real predicaments. There was never a lack of anything happening. The point of view alternated between Emma’s first person and Galen’s third person so we got to see both events progressing at the same time. The thing I liked best about this novel was that there wasn’t just one evil villain—there were two! This kept me on my toes trying to figure out exactly what was going on.Leading LadyEmma was definitely more relaxed at points in this novel. She finally found somewhere where she fit in and you could see the wonders it did for her. She was just as strong and brave in this novel even though she wasn’t much the hero in this novel like the previous one. She did get herself out of some sticky situations though. Classic to the personality we saw in the previous novels, Emma was snarky and funny and sarcastic. I really love her character.Leading MaleGalen was constantly in sticky situations—once with each other the evil villains and once with Emma. He just couldn’t catch a break! His chapters were my favorite to read because I was guaranteed action with a snarky Galen. He was protective in this novel and we also saw some jealousy. It was endearing to see because we didn’t see much of it in the other novels because there was never competition for Emma’s affections. But that competition just made Galen because even more swoon-worthy.Reed was the third point to the love triangle. View Spoiler » I did enjoy Reed’s character though. He was what Galen wasn’t—funny, happy, and social. It was a nice contrast. And I have to admit—he was pretty swoony too.RomanceThe romance in this novel was on the rocks. The big problem of land vs. water came to a head in this novel. By that, I mean Emma wanted to live on land and Galen wanted to live in the water. That was the main source of their tension. View Spoiler » The chemistry was there like in the other novels and I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of these two together. They just complemented each other very well.World BuildingWe see more of the Syrena history in this novel and I liked that we got one more in-depth look at this world that Banks created before having to say goodbye to it.ConclusionOf Neptune was a better conclusion to Emma and Galen’s story than I was expecting. It pains me to say goodbye to the characters, the romance, and the story.

I gave the first book - Of Poseidon - a three-star ratting, the second one - Of Triton - a four-star ratting, so I expected this one to be even better. Really there wasn't much to screw up, but she did!Emma and Galen's romance seemed to have grown and mature, and all of a sudden they are two 12 year-olds again! I know, I know, they are young, what did I expect? I remember being 19, and I was pretty stupid and egotistical too. But I expect my heros and heroins to be a little wiser and more congruent than I was, am I right? After all, aren't books supposed to teach you how to be a better you?And I definitely expect the authors I praise to know better than to throw a love triangle at our main characters out of the blue for - what it seemed to me - no better reason then "ops, I forgot to put a love triangle in there somewhere, how will my readers know their love is true if it's not challenged? How will I justify binding them together for the rest of their lives?"On top of that, some of the things I really liked about the plot, the secondary characters and Banks' writing style have also decayed. For starters, the whole plot seemed like an after thought - and a poorly convincing one at that. Why would Emma's grandfather send her alone to Neptune? How did he not see what could happen? And that was just the beginning of the "Why-would"s of this book. I won't say anymore because I don't want to give any spoilers, but seriously, I was regretting this whole trilogy around chapter eight! My favorite secondary characters (like Raina, for instance) are barely there - replaced by other poorly crafted ones, like Reed. And what was a fast paced, funny story became slow, redundant and predictable. All in all, I wouldn't read this trilogy if I were any older than 16 years old and looking for a (very) light read.

The author has used this avenue to satirize the system and the influential. She exposed the suffering of a mother on her child and her die hard spirit. I eagerly anticipated this novel and truly it worth waiting for. Kudos to Jeanne, this is truly a masterpiece, a fascinating and well concluded story.

The not so impartial "rule of law" in the UK and its devasting impact on a mother and son By Beatrix Let me start by saying I am a lawyer, but a corporate lawyer rather than one with any experience in family law. The eloquent and gripping account set forth in this novel was a true eye opener for me, in reading about how a judge may decide on a child's fate merely on the "balance of probabilities" rather than an evidence based trial beyond reasonable doubt. I have recommended this book to both friends and legal colleagues, for its beautifully written portrayal of a mother's anguish struggling for years in a hostile legal labyrinth. Highly affecting, but vitally, also very thought provoking.

Phoebe finally did it! One day she dared to sign up for an online dating service – one that catered to people just like her, people with a fascination for spanking. Then she waited anxiously by her computer, hoping – and maybe fearing a little – that she’d get a response. And then it happened. She received an email from a man named Tom, who claimed to be seeking a loving, long-term relationship with the woman of his dreams. He wrote that he was old-fashioned, and knew just how to handle bratty behavior. Every inch of him sounded dreamy! Was he too good to be true? After exchanging a few short emails and then talking on the phone, they agreed to meet for dinner the next day at a small pub. Their attraction was instant, but more than that, they connected on a deeper level. They talked for hours until closing time. Tom was reluctant to let her out of his sight. He told her to give him a call as soon as she made it safely home. Hours later, she still hadn’t called him. He hopped into his car and drove all over town, the main roads and back roads, looking for her. He was stunned when he found her walking on the side of the road, drenched to the bone. Her car broke down, and she didn’t have her cellphone on her, although she had told him that she did. He knew then that it was time to show her just what a good, old-fashioned spanking actually felt like! But was it too soon? Would she want to see him again, when she discovered that the reality was nothing like her fantasy? It was a risk, but one he had to take, for he was falling for her hard. She was definitely one in a million, and she was his.

Due to various past experiences, these two had sent inquiries for spanking relationship and found each other. The vocabulary, while appropriately used was quite advanced in places and I had to even look up words to verify meanings. I never found the one word for the definition would not have met the contextual indication of its usage that was located in the dictionary. The descriptions, other than mentioned were well used and the writing style refreshing.I gave four stars because it seemed that Tom was furious every time he spanked her and in my experience, anger has no place when correcting behavior. It is too harsh and too easy to damage your relationship. The spanking incidents reasoning were appropriate and deserved. I do recommend. There was some sexual play but very little description.

Using a dating site, they start communicating. Each had been married and divorced and never really found that special someone to fulfill a mutual desire for a more old-fashioned relationship. They both feel instant sparks, but can they make it work. Phoebe is needing a strong dominate man who is willing to take her in hand and Tom may be just that man. I liked the characters, they had great chemistry together. Phoebe has a lot to learn after so many years of brattiness, pouting, and controlling situations. I found the dialog open, honest, entertaining and even at times heartbreaking. Words said in anger are ugly and can cause a rift that may not be able to be mended. Can these two have a DD relationship and find love?

Phoebe has decided to use the services of an Internet dating service for spankophiles. (What a name!) Anyways, she is matched up with Tom, who seems to be perfect for her. When they meet, Tom and Phoebe seem to be a good match. But, Phoebe has been taking care of herself for years. Tom interprets that as brattiness that needs to be taken in hand. And he does take her in hand!I liked that these characters were older. It's nice to read about people who are out of their teens! There was a great chemistry between these characters as well. I give this 5 stars.
