(Like myself) By Jenna Detrapani Not being one who would typically purchase an e-novella (or any novella, for that matter), I couldn't resist obtaining The Hidden Prince immediately upon its release. This is a superb origin story that retains the high level of quality in writing, characters and setting that already graces the pages of The Orphan Queen book series. Better yet, it is an origin story about the character we all know and love, Black Knife.One of my favorite things about this novella it that it brings out even more of the charming and complex personality that we discovered about Black Knife in the previously released full-length novel. It gives us a look into the background of the characters Lady Chey and Meredith... AND it also provides even more insight - from a different perspective - about the magic of the world. If you do not wish to be spoiled about *who* exactly Black Knife is, I would recommend that you read The Orphan Queen first and make the discovery as it was originally intended. BUT, The Hidden Prince can, by all means, be read before you dive into The Orphan Queen. It's a good sampler for newcomers of the stellar writing and world that makes up this series. And Black Knife at a younger age? *double win!* I cannot say more, for that would mean to spoil identities and The Orphan Queen. Just know that many of the items that were hinted at in The Orphan Queen are addressed in this first prequel installment.(Oh, and did I mention that there is a two-chapter excerpt for the final full-length book, The Mirror King? Yes, as a matter of fact, there IS. And it is TANTALIZING.)I am hooked and am guaranteed to be purchasing each new novella in this prequel as they are released.(Perhaps we will receive more excerpts, as well!)

This just makes me need The Mirror King even more By Christina @ Books and Prejudice I don't generally buy e-novellas, but I had to get Hidden Prince for basically all the reasons Jodi Meadows posted on twitter earlier. And it was so worth it!The Hidden Prince is the story of Tobiah just before he first becomes black knife. Getting in his head, wow. He always seemed so grumpy in The Orphan Queen, but as black knife he was so different and much more himself. The Hidden Prince (and I expect the rest of the novellas) explore his trials with King Terrell, a father he never seems to get along with very well.Not to mention, the first two extremely evil chapters of The Mirror King are included at the end of the novella! The novella did satisfy the craving somewhat, but it created so much more! I need the next novella and the next book!

By Dreams Review originally posted on my blog: Once Upon A Dream Books.So, you ask yourself, why is she dedicating a full post for a mini-review for a novella?Especially since - and this is a not a big secret at all - this blogger tends to hate novellas?What a waste, you say?But that's just it, it is not a waste at all, I really loved this novella.Overall, in respect of the The Orphan Queen plot line you only get a few pieces you might not have otherwise inferred from book one. Presentation matters, however, because it's not really what you learn or what happens, but how things unfold in Tobiah's characterization that really make this short story wonderful.While reading The Orphan Queen, I fell in love with Tobiah. He was a wonderfully complex character who struggled between doing what he wanted, being the prince his father demanded him to be, and living up to his country's expectations of what a prince should be like.I spent a lot of time imaging what happened to him, how did he become the young man he was becoming. I needed, not just to know, but to see it. So I was really happy to hear about these novellas. This Prince Tobiah was not my Prince Tobiah from The Orphan Queen, but you could see elements, little teasers about the man he was going to become.And the wonderful friendship between James and him? Still there, and still wonderful. I'm really looking forward to watching their relationship grow stronger as the novellas continue on.WORDS TO LIVE BY"Being sheltered isn't the same as cowering. One is forced upon me. The other would be choice."OVERALLI really cannot recommend this series enough.
