For the first time, descendants of Harriet Tubman tell the story of the famed abolitionist within the context of their family lineage. This creative nonfiction work is an intricate mix of family lore, memoir, and historical reconstruction. It captures the lives of the family and friends of the Greatest Conductor of the Underground Railroad in a way that separates it from academic works. The book depicts a family, from which an American heroine is born, that survives slavery, gains freedom, and begins the journey of creating a new life beyond the shackles of human bondage. The saga tells the story of seven generations of women of African descent tied by bloodline to Harriet Tubman. Harriet, herself, is showcased as an ordinary woman who did extraordinary things. Tubman was an abolitionist, liberator, and humanitarian whose service to others was a testament to her values of commitment to faith, family, fortitude, and freedom.

"Family Recollections of Harriet Tubman With Nuggets of Important Information" By Pat in Syracuse This is a book of family recollections as a great- great- grandniece of Harriet Tubman and husband Nelson Davis; for example, what Davis was like, what Tubman's laugh and singing voice sounded like, her favorite songs, that Tubman's father Ben Ross was the preacher at the Bazzel Church in Dorchester County and other little-known tidbits of information. Tubman had no biological children, but she and Davis adopted a black child named Gert (shown in the only known photo which includes Davis). Many of her family that Tubman rescued lived with her on her property straddling Auburn & Flemming, NY, the first 7 acres of which Tubman purchased from Auburn resident Secretary of State, under Lincoln, Seward. Jones descends from one of the nieces, Ann Marie Ross (aka Martha Stewart when in St. Catherines, Ontario, to which Tubman took her relatives after the 1850 Fugitive Slave Law, as slavery was outlawed in Canada). Many of Tubman's nieces and nephews who fled MD changed their first names and changed their last names to Stewart, one of the three largest slave owners in Dorchester County, on the Eastern Shore in MD, who later had a change of heart and freed his slaves. Slaves often changed their names in order to hide from slave catchers. (In this case, it does not make sense to the present writer.) Because of these name changes and that Tubman had many siblings who in turn had many children, it is very difficult to trace the ancestry of Tubman's many nieces and nephews (not all escaped North with Tubman--you may meet Tubman's descendants in Cambridge, MD today at the Harriet Tubman Museum.) Here, Jones traces her lineage. One of the important contributions of her book is the information given on Ann Marie's husband Thomas Elliott, one of the "Dover Eight," his escape from MD, his life in St Catherines, thence to Auburn and what happened to him after his wife Ann Marie died (she changed her name back to Ann Marie when she moved to Auburn). Jones also tells what it was like growing up in Auburn, NY in the 1930s-1940s as a African-American (quite illuminating). Jones' style of writing is one in which you feel she is speaking to you personally and makes for an enjoyable read. The Foreward is written by Sally Roesch Wagner, the Founding Director of the Matilda Joslyn Gage Center for Social Justice Dialogue (Gage, an abolitionist [whose home was a stop on the Underground Railroad], women's rights activist and champion of Native American rights--completing the triumvirate of Stanton & Anthony) in Gage's recently restored historic home (4 miles east of Syracuse on Route 5 in Fayetteville, NY; self-guiding tours, with interactive displays M-F (315) 637-9511).

She is not just an American historic figure. I think school children can read this book to learn about determination. They can learn what they choose for themselves is possible. They can learn that love and generosity play a part in life and how these necessities are part of their lives. There is simple language that children can comprehend.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Beautiful modern fable By Johanna Draper Carlson The Oven has the weirdly unreal feel of a modern fable, in part due to its science fiction approach. Sophie Goldstein’s story tells of a couple who leave urban civilization so they can reproduce outside of society’s rules. They head out to a broken-down trailer camp where babies are possible, but they haven’t realized what living on one’s own really means and how much they’d have to sacrifice for their hope of a family. The art is deceptively simple, but powerfully emotional, and the grey tones with orange as the only color perfectly capture the feeling of a hot, dirty refugee camp. Natural farming is hard work, and the stress of their new lifestyle makes it clear that they have different dreams. They’re forced into more traditional roles, as having a child is a much greater commitment from a woman, and they have different levels of commitment to the idea. The story expands with what the reader brings to it. I read it as a cautionary tale about thinking that something external will fix you. “If I only had a baby, we’d be a real family” or “if I could live elsewhere, things would be better” are delusions. I prefer “remember, no matter where you go, there you are” as a reminder that we take our problems with us, and we have to address them to fix what’s really wrong. You don’t necessarily know how those you depend on will react in times of great change, and you can’t change another person who doesn’t want to change. The Oven is deceptive, in that it seems straightforward and direct, but there are hidden depths. It’s subtle, mature work where you’ll notice different things as you come back to it. (Review originally posted at ComicsWorthReading.com.)

It took a couple of pages to get into the flow of the story, then it was smooth sailing from there. Likable characters, with a hint of mystery. You are thrown right into the story. No real background on either the world or characters. This threw me at first, but I enjoyed the story enough to overlook this.If you like sci-fi novellas, I think you will like this.

YA Sci-fi Serial that's Seriously Spellbinding By LibStaff2 A Sci-fi novella with an entertaining plot and fascinating characters that pull the reader in. Think teenaged Firefly crew with some aliens, an evil corporation, and some high-tech mixed throughout. This is a great start to a YA short story series that has that pulp magazine feel. I'm looking forward to the next one.LT Member Giveaway

It pulled me into the story right from page 1 and there aren't many books that are able to do that. It's a pretty quick paced, easy, enjoyable read. Did I mention hot?! While reading I felt there was a close resemblance to Fifty Shades of Grey but at the same time it is completely different. There are a few similarities between some background happenings but not in the characters by any means. The main female lead of Bed of Thornes (further referred to as BOT) is a young strong independent woman who knows what she wants and likes. She is a sweet carefree fun loving person but at the same time she has a dark fierce side that she keeps behind closed doors. She happens to notice a young man out for his run while sitting in the park and after that can't get him out of his mind and he ends but becoming the object of her fantasies. Little does she know, or he for that matter, that her fantasies are going to be more then just that.So begins her battle of fantasy vs reality and the fact that no matter how hard she tries to keep this man at arms length and her heart out of it she just can't stop what is meant to be............P.S. There is so much more to this story but you will have to buy the book to see for yourself and I highly recommend you do!

I am very excited to see where the next few books lead us to in this world. The authors have done a fantastic job of world-building and introducing us to some very interesting characters. The main characters have such different backgrounds, but they blend together and compliment each other perfectly. The world has a rich history that keeps coming to the surface in the way the story is told and it is really deep and fascinating. I really hope that some prequels are in the works to explore the world that has been created and help us dive further into this new and exciting realm. I love the different point of views that the characters offer, especially when the same scene is shown from a couple of different angles/views. I think that these authors are really clever, not only in the story but also in the way that they chose to tell it. I, for one, am very excited to continue reading this series and can't wait to see what happens next. Highly recommend this book!!!

To Find Your Future, You Have to Face Your Past

At sixteen, Morgan Lindstrum has the life that every other girl wants--at least from the outside. A privileged only child, she has everything she could ever want, except her parents' attention. A Princeton physicist and a high-powered executive, they barely have any time for each other, much less for Morgan. Then her beloved grandfather dies, depriving Morgan of the only stable figure in her life. If that's not enough, she suddenly finds out he was never her grandfather at all. To find out the truth about her family, Morgan makes her way to Brooklyn, where she meets Terence Mulvaney, the Irish immigrant father who her mother disowned. Morgan wants answers; but instead of just satisfying her curiosity, Mulvaney shows her the people in his condemned tenement building, who are suffering and have nowhere to go. He challenges her to help them, by tearing away the veil of shame, and showing her wealthy parents and her advantaged circle of friends a world they don't want to know exists. The temptation to walk away from this ugly reality, as her mother did, is strong. But if she does, can Morgan ever really leave behind what she learned when she crossed into Brooklyn?

Crossing Into Brooklyn, by Mary Ann McGuigan

From School Library Journal Gr 9 Up—Sixteen-year-old Morgan has lived a comfortable life, though her successful parents pay more attention to their careers than to her. When her adoring grandfather passes away, Morgan becomes suspicious that her mother has been keeping something from her, so she snoops until she discovers a mysterious letter. A trip to a run-down area of Brooklyn to investigate reveals that her mother has kept an important truth from Morgan her whole life: her "real" grandfather, an Irish immigrant, was an abusive alcoholic whom her mother disowned. Morgan feels cheated not knowing the truth and is disappointed in her mother's unwavering conviction not to see her father again. The teen channels her anger into helping her grandfather and his neighbors, especially when his building is condemned. Her tenacity is admirable and the author succeeds in relaying Morgan's discomfort and fear when confronting poverty. Unfortunately, readers do not learn much more about Morgan, except that she hides her own secret past regarding sexual experiences. A secondary plot of her budding romance with one of her best friends feels creepy, as the young man seems attracted to her because he incorrectly believes she is "unspoiled goods." The ending is plausible as some of the plotlines are not tied up too neatly. VERDICT An additional purchase; good for fans of realistic fiction.—Sherry J. Mills, Hazelwood East High School, St. Louis, MO

Review

"Brilliantly realistic. Readers who thirst for stories that contain all the grit, messiness, angst, and hope of humanity should pick this one up immediately. Perfect for readers who seek very realistic young adult novels, Crossing Into Brooklyn will break hearts...but leave just the right amount of hope to keep going." --YA Books Central

"Sixteen-year-old Morgan has lived a comfortable life, though her successful parents pay more attention to their careers than to her. Good for fans of realistic fiction." --School Library Journal

"McGuigan expertly weaves in heavy topics such as privilege, poverty, and abuse.... Written in an accessible manner, this coming-of-age novel will appeal to teens who like characters with complex motivations." --VOYA Magazine

"The development of plot and characterization is striking. Morgan's thoughtful first-person-present narrative reveals a wealth of information about herself in subtly crafted sentences. McGuigan infuses Morgan's tale with poignant, authentic humor and emotion.... A beautifully written book." --Booklist

"This is a book that challenges you to remember that your perspective is only one piece of the puzzle.... I appreciated having a more honest look into how people grow together or grow apart. Crossing Into Brooklyn reminds us that everyone is on their own unique path. To choose to stand by someone on their path can be difficult, but when the conviction is strong enough, the bonds can remain." --TeenReads.com

They have provided for her, made her feel safe, protected her and did what they thought was right for her.Morgan soon finds out that her nice life, it isn’t what she had grown to believe is true. She learns that her family has been keeping a bunch of secrets when it comes to her mother’s family. She learns that there is so much going on within her house that she is having a hard time figuring out what is real, what isn’t real, who is real, who isn’t real and how she is suppose to feel about it all in the end.Eventually she takes matters into her own hands. She tries to find out what everyone has been hiding from her.I appreciate Morgan’s character in this book to an extent. I found her to be an overly opinionated, life isn’t fair, why does no one tell me the truth person. I didn’t like her constant whining throughout the book, I didn’t enjoy that she thought she had the right to insert herself into her parents business. I don’t think she had the right to act like her life was coming to an end, because her parents didn’t share hurtful information from her past with her. I also didn’t think she was a smart character for traveling from New Jersey to Brooklyn alone to meet people she didn’t know from Adam and was warned by bother her parents weren’t good in the past. I personally had I been her parent would have grounded her until her graduation. There were some good points in the book. She had a nice friendship with her two best friends. She had supportive parents beside the fact that she constantly did as she pleased. She also did a great justice for some individuals that she hardly knew. It showed that she had the ability to be self less in a sense, but she had a poor way of coming to that realization. If I were to recommend this book, I would only push it for those individuals that just need a light story to read. Those individuals that need to understand that life isn’t always fair and sometimes your parents only do the things they do in order to protect you from the things they know may hurt you in the long run. There is so much that can be learned from this book, but a lot of the main points were glossed over, so it’s hard to really sit here and determine what is good and what is bad.

CROSSING INTO BROOKYLN is a heart-wrenching story that focuses on individuals’ complex relationships By Teen Reads We arrive in this world with intimate connections already built and plenty of room to create more. But what happens when the ones you are supposed to hold closest to you seem the most out of reach? In Mary Ann McGuigan’s CROSSING INTO BROOKLYN we meet Morgan Lindstrum, a girl who is sheltered in her empty world of privilege and seeks answers about a figure unknown to her for her entire life: her grandfather. Why would her parents lie about who her grandfather is? Who can she truly rely on? What does her cozy life of wealth afford her when she doesn’t even have the attention of her distant parents? Morgan begins to forge connections with people she never expected to even cross paths with.CROSSING INTO BROOKYLN is a heart-wrenching story that focuses on individuals’ complex relationships and how they are perceived by different people. McGuigan crafts the kind of characters you struggle to embrace because they are mysterious, shallow or downright difficult. In order to connect with them, you must dig deep and honestly reflect on yourself. As you read, you begin to peel back layers and realize what motives, trauma and hope bring to our day-to-day interactions. This is a book that challenges you to remember that your perspective is only one piece of the puzzle.CROSSING INTO BROOKLYN also delivers a sharp critique of the ways in which we disengage from harsh realities. Morgan, in her pristine city of Princeton, is allowed to take a train ride home to her glossy mansion after leaving the run-down neighborhoods she sees in Brooklyn. For her dear friends who reside there, there is nowhere to go, nowhere to turn and no one to run to. McGuigan reminds us of the discomfort we feel in addressing the needs of the poor, but also the true importance of community and trust. This book was painful to sit through in the most rewarding way possible. The pain and discomfort of feeling out of touch with those you love or your surroundings often felt relatable and tangible. While I initially hoped for a clear cut, happy ending for all, I appreciated having a more honest look into how people grow together or grow apart. CROSSING INTO BROOKLYN reminds us that everyone is on their own unique path. To choose to stand by someone on their path can be difficult, but when the conviction is strong enough, the bonds can remain.Reviewed by Yaira M.

Engrossing Coming-of-Age Story By KarenRachel Crossing into Brooklyn is an engrossing book about a 16 year old girl, Morgan, who comes-of-age in a family filled with secrets and evasions. Once Morgan finds out the truth about her mother's identity and pieces together some of the reasons for the detachment and coldness that underlie her family dynamic she immerses herself in a quest to understand her own complex feelings about her lineage, class and social standing, poverty and suffering. Another theme in the book is Morgan's developing sexuality and how to be honest in the face of social and sexual pressures. In some ways, Morgan is like her mother. She is not particularly warm though she does have some passion. Like many adolescent girls it is hard for her to understand her mother's point of view but as she comes to understand more about her maternal grandfather she does feel some compassion for her. As she gets to know him she becomes more sure of herself, stands up to her parents, feels less shame with her friends and family and becomes more fleshed out with a fuller sense of herself.I did not particularly understand the point about Morgan's friend/sometimes boyfriend Ansel. The virgin/whore split that Morgan felt and Ansel seemed to create felt pointless and underdeveloped. What seemed to be a good friendship became bogged down in this dynamic and I could not understand the reason. Otherwise, I was completely absorbed by Morgan's story and how in crossing Brooklyn she found herself.Thank you Edelweiss for allowing me to review this book for an honest review.

The characters are engaging---Sam's sweet and energetic while Dean is hot on top of hot. Fun if you need just a little break from the daily grind.

It has been 21 years since the dawn of democracy in South Africa. To mark the “coming of age” of the nation, Melanie Verwoerd and Sonwabiso Ngcowa travelled across South Africa collecting the life stories of people born in 1994. These “born frees” relate their personal journeys, dreams and hopes for the future of the country. The brutally honest voices of these 21-year-olds, challenging and disturbing, as well as funny and hopeful, give an invaluable insight into modern day South Africa. "A remarkable insight ... It will leave no one untouched" - Archbishop Desmond Tutu

An Important Book about South Africa By Mbodlomane This deserves to be considered an important book, as an incisive view of the South African condition through the stories of young people born about the time of the first democratic election there, and now reaching maturity at the 21st anniversary of that great event. Story goes quite interesting with impulsive instances around a group of teens who found themselves in a different world where kids really worked very hard for two reason; to free the Jurols and to awake the comma ridden children. In general, a must read mystery story!

It catches my interest because it’s different from other books I’ve read. How the author made a great story from falling asleep was amazing. I highly recommend this book.

This book really kept me engaged all the time and there is always a feeling of what will happen next. It's like they are in a coma for days. The main character, Jacob, is very shock and decided not to sleep. He tried everything that he can to stay awake, drank energy drinks, and played games, anything that keep his eyes open. Story goes quite interesting with impulsive instances around a group of teens who found themselves in a different world where kids really worked very hard for two reason; to free the Jurols and to awake the comma ridden children. In general, a must read mystery story!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Saying Goodbye Hurts By Step Into Fiction We'll talk about the cover(s) first. This series has one of the most beautiful set of covers I have seen. They a bright, they are perfect and they do not have a person on the cover. Let's be honest, people on the cover is overdone so it's nice to see something different. But I am so in love with these covers. You can see all three of them below.Another series that is coming to an end. I know, all good things must end but I wish this saying weren't true because I love these characters, I love this world and I especially love the voice of Tristan Hart. I have said it in every review I've written for this series and I'll say it again, Zoraida is spot on with Tristan. He sounds like a teenage boy, he acts like a teenage boy and honestly, he reminds me exactly of this 18 year old guy that I work with. Writing the opposite sex is difficult (I know, because I used to write fan fic and roleplay Harry Potter and I just couldn't get the guys down) and there are few authors, in my opinion, that succeed brilliantly with it. This is one of those stories that is spot on and it makes me enjoy the books more because it's real.I thought I would be upset about the fact that it's a good two thirds to three quarters of the way in until we see Layla again because, romance is a big thing for me but honestly, I wasn't missing it. I mean, I was but I felt like the story held it's own without it. I was just so invested in everything going on that this book held my attention from beginning to end. There was one disappointed in this book but it's a minor one (and a bit of a spoiler). I feel like one minor disappointment is pretty dang good.I am very happy with the ending of this trilogy and it doesn't leave me questioning anything or wondering what happened with so and so. I feel like it was tied together nicely with a purdy little bow on top. But like I said, I'm sad it's over.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Chapter by Chapter's review of The Vast and Brutal Sea By MaryAnn I loved author Zoraida Cordova’s The Vicious Deep series since I read the very first book. It was a new take on mermaids with a fun protagonist and a fast-paced story to boot. It was a fun time and every time I would enter her world of murderous mermaids, I wouldn’t want to leave. It pains me to know that this is the last book in the series. I don’t know how I’ll let go of Tristan and Layla and all of the characters who interact with them in the series. Obviously, The Vast and Brutal Sea would the epic conclusion. Romance, betrayal, war—I was ready for it all and I wasn’t left disappointed. The Vast and Brutal Sea takes place exactly where The Savage Blue has left off. Tristan finds himself first at the mercy of a tribe of mermaids on a seemingly deserted island where he is reunited with an old friend. He knows that in two days all Hell will break loose. And with the Silver Mermaid—Nieve—having all the power and his best friend and sort-of-not-really girlfriend Layla, Tristan is stuck between a rock and a hard place. When Tristan is betrayed by Kurt, who plans to take the Throne for himself, he knows that there is only one way to win this battle and that it will require returning to the place where everything began. What I loved most about The Vast and Brutal Sea is that it begins with action and it ends with action. There is no in-between. The Vast and Brutal Sea is everything that a final novel in a series should be. Action. Action. Action. And it’s all relevant to the plot. There are so many things that happen in The Vast and Brutal Sea that make it incredibly addictive and make you not want to put it down until you know exactly who will win, who will lose and who will survive. The stakes are obviously high in the novel. Especially for Tristan. Nieve has Layla, she has everything set in place for her plan to work out. She’s dangerous and everybody knows it and it is only a matter of time before she shows just how dangerous she really is. There are chapters that I adored in The Vast and Brutal Sea that took place revolving solely around Nieve. They were beautifully written and added a lot of depth to her character that wasn’t there in the past two novels.Betrayal is a big part of The Vast and Brutal Sea. There is so many plot twists and unexpected character deaths and betrayals. It left me reeling, constantly. Cordova writes it all in a way that is humorous when it needs to be, easy-flowing and at the same time very simplistic. My only real complaint would be certain scenes where Tristan’s character attempts to be witty in certain circumstances and just comes out looking a bit foolish. Other than that, The Vast and Brutal Sea was great. Truly, truly great. The conclusion is good. It’s strong. I know that the series might be at its end. I’m so sad that I’ll never be able to enter this amazing world that has been built up over the past three books with beautiful lore and characters. This is a series that I will always think fondly of. I personally hope that there might be some sort of spin-off. That we might get to see more, perhaps not form behind Tristan’s eyes, but just more.I would recommend the Vicious Deep trilogy to readers who are looking for an easy read that is well-written and fun. These are novels that have their serious moments but are also humorous and funny when they need to be. There’s romance but not too much romance. There’s lots and lots of action. Plot twists. This is a genuinely good series that I highly recommend.

Vicious Deep trilogy comes to an end in an awesome way By Jenelle Klavenga ********************Thank you NetGalley for a review copy of this book****************I actually stumbled upon the second book Savage Blue on NetGalley and thought it sounded interesting. I had the library quickly order book 1, The Vicious Deep, and read it quickly. I loved it. Then I read the second book and loved it as well! Then NetGalley put out book 3 and I was hoping up and down with joy! It didn't disappoint.Kurt has betrayed him and Layla has been kidnapped by Nieve. Tristan is out to find the Sleeping Giants, believing they will help him win the war. But instead he ends up trapped on a misty island, having to learn the River clan ways before he can leave. Luckily time outside the island moves differently and the outside world is almost at a standstill. Tristan's main goal is to rescue Layla, but harsh decisions must be made because Nieve is making her move. Now.Okay, yeah LOVED IT! The book kept me going through the whole thing. I couldn't put it down. I had never heard of Zoraida Cordova until Vicious Deep came out, but you can bet that she is on my must read author list now!

Shades Let me start off by saying that the title truly does sum up the book perfectly: Lust!We start off with Avery watching a gorgeous man jog past her house. We later find out that the man is none other than Kash, an office cor-worker. Avery has been lusting after him for quite some time, and with the description of his looks, I can see why. The guy it hot! (Those shades!) And be honest, how many of us haven't lusted after a good-looking co-worker?Then, we get a little glimpse into Kash's POV - which I loved. I enjoyed reading about his thoughts and feelings. How he has also been lusting after Avery. How he has struggled with wanting her, but wanting to remain professional in the workplace.I enjoyed the fact that Ms. Dean kept the characters' actions/thoughts real. I was able to relate to all the jealousy, desire, lust, passion, and insecurities that they both felt. The misunderstandings that occur are very realistic - they are something I believe many of us go through in the beginning of a relationship when we are learning just how important communication is. While I wish we had more of a connection between them being in lust, to them being in love (more detail of their journey there), I still enjoyed the overall story. It wasn't over-the-top with unrealistic billionaire with a damsel in distress. Both Avery and Kash knew what they wanted out of a relationship, and both were willing to admit their feelings in the end after some misunderstanding and hurt feelings, and move forward. There is heat, there is hot passion, a gorgeous guy, a beautiful girl, relatable emotions, and realistic actions/feelings. I would recommend this book to any adult looking for a brief escape into a world of 'Lust'.

The chemistry and tension are killing us. The mad sexual desire drives us out of our minds. The only person who can satisfy us is just within reach and at one point we can't fight the temptation. But when the haze of lust fades away, albeit for a moment, we realize we have been trapped in a not so healthy arrangement. Perhaps you may try to stay strong, restrain from calling, try to act indifferent... till the next text message or a phone call. How long would you last being at someone's beck and call? This debut novella by Tori Dean is a sweet and funny story about the complicated relationship between two office co-workers. The point of view switches between Avery and Kash and it goes to show how often we may end up misunderstanding each other. Especially when our ability to communicate is clouded by intense lust, jealousy, fears, and doubts. Can love grow on such an unstable foundation?Avery and Kash have the hots for each other from the very first time they meet. But while they are sexually compatible they seriously lack in being honest and open in their communication. As I was reading, I thought that neither of them really bothered to listen to the other or try to understand them. They felt quite human and easy to relate to. For most of the book, I liked them, even if they were being silly and making plenty of mistakes on the path to a better relationship. At times, I found Kash to be seriously dense and headstrong, especially by the end of the story. Of course, he redeemed himself and made it up to Avery but I seriously wondered how a supposedly smart guy may be so blind to obvious things. I felt that Avery was a bit too needy at times but given her history that was easy to understand. On the other hand, she was definitely no damsel in distress and knew how to fight for what she wanted. She also had no trouble to put Kash at his place and that is a trait of character I definitely want to see more often in the contemporary erotic romance. What I really liked about the story was that it feels very realistic and the reader can easily walk in the character's shoes. There were no expensive restaurants, helicopter rides, and extravagant gestures. Still it succeeded in being romantic and touching. The sex scenes showed very well the mind blowing lust those two felt for each other. However, my general feeling was that Avery and Kash spent most of the time in lust and angst. Sometimes I questioned what binds them together except the craving of their flesh. I wish there were more scenes that were not exclusively in bed or in a heated argument. If you're looking for a quick, romantic book that flows easily and can be finished in one reading I'd recommend you to give it a try. I enjoyed Lust and I look forward to reading the future works of the author.

By LJMiles Lust is definitely the perfect description for Tori Dean’s new story! Lust follows Avery Sloan, a young woman whose come out of a bad relationship—and straight into the arms of the sexy Kash Kincade. Kash is tall, handsome and stacked in every way possible and makes for sexy hero for Avery—a very relatable and capable heroine. What I really loved about this story how human Avery is. I could feel myself in this story and really sympathized with her. There’s a lot of complexity here and some relatable struggles that really draw you into the characters—in addition to lots of hot sex. Avery and Kash’s relationship revolves around their undeniable sexual chemistry, but the attraction needs to be tempered by reality—what do they both want out of this? Is it only sex?Another aspect of the story that I enjoyed was how it jumped from Avery’s point of view to Kash’s. You’re really able to get into the characters head’s this way and it definitely helped draw me into the story. Two sides of the same sexy coin—with heart and real connections—equals count me in!This is definitely more than just your wham-bam erotica. There’s a lot of heart here—that thoroughly complements the sex and definitely takes it into the erotic romance category. Though this is Tori’s first story, I feel like it’s a really solid foundation from which to build on and I only expect to enjoy her stories more and more in the future. Sexy and sassy, this is a great read for women on the go—or anyone who need a sexy pick me up!

Grange was a small time pickpocket – not a bad person by nature, just tossed by circumstances onto a rocky shore, and doing what he needed in order to get by. But just when he saw an opportunity to leave thievery behind, fate cruelly dashed him into worse circumstances. Captured and thrown into a hard-scrabble, isolated labor camp, Grange faced exile at best, and death as a more likely outcome. But a whispering voice in the darkness led him to discover a set of enchanted jewels, and the jewels placed him on an entirely new path towards freedom and a new life. But the jewels also slowly revealed that his new life will carry a very, very steep price at some point in the future. Grange’s unique capacity has made him a needed – and hunted – man. A lovely girl appears to lead him, but not love him, and a vagabond lifestyle wandering through a bucolic countryside enchants him, so much so that he forgets the warning of the jewels, until strange and terrible things happen, and the boy realizes that the road to the future will be a dark one. He’ll have to rely on the Elemental Jewels if he is to survive, and carry out his fate!

Jeff has a knack of story telling that can be enjoyed by all age groups. His audience is much younger than me, but I really enjoy reading his books. All of his works have one thing in common: there is a higher power that is in charge. He never mentions this power by name, but is obvious. His heroes are always guided by something good and they always defeat something evil. I recommend anything written by Jeffrey Quyle. I have read all of his books and have never been disappointed.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. more mainstream epic fantasy By Mark Brown This story is like many of Quyle's other books, and I look forward to a new series and new adventures. There's a hero who has no roots or ties, set adrift with great forces pushing him about. The pace is a little slower than the other beginnings of fantasy series the author has written, but it still delivers a good story.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Good choice for teens and on By Don Beahm Well written coming of age story. Pleasant characters, well written decent plot. Good choice for teens and on. No real violence or strong sexual context, but a good read none the less.

Barnett I got to meet Trudy when she and her husband were traveling through on their "last" long drive from Texas to Arizona, when they were moving and stayed at my Airbnb in New Mexico. What a delightful person - as delightfully positive and energetic as this book full of family, life, love, faith --- and recipes! Couldn't wait to get to reading time to be able to get immersed in the stories of things we all face, and visiting kids and grandkids in Goofyville (Phoenix), where I also travel often to visit my own daughter and her family.
