4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Platypire Reviews By J. Hooligan @ Platypire Reviews I was given a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.First of all, I would like it known that I waited almost two years for this book. I had hyped myself up for it, so there were a lot of high expectations on my part. This book did not disappoint. There were several new characters, and they all fit right into the story. Although I would like it known that I shall refer to Eros as "buttface" until he proves himself otherwise.I both liked and wanted to smack Isis in this story for how she acted. I understand that she didn't have the full picture, and she was trying to do what she thought was for the best, but gawd damn. It was a nice relief to see a heroine struggling and not have everything together where it fits into place perfectly. Made her feel more realistic to me.There were times where I felt lost, as if I had missed something, but each time the answer came later on in the story. I'm a very impatient person. One thing I must say... expect feels. Because they're definitely in here.Speaking of feels... my least favorite part was the ending, because just that... it ended. I will need book three immediately so that I may continue reading this story, because I'm frustrated that I don't have it with me now.5/5 platypires

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Best book in the series so far By Book Beetches Reviews I made no secret about how much I loved Creatura and if I'm being honest, I was afraid that the second book-like many before it- would fall flat. I shouldn't have worried. Fruit of Misfortune continues the story of the Creatura Isis and her greek god boyfriend, David, this time in Greece while they look for Isis' father and try to find answers before their transformation is complete and their death warrants are signed. The introduction of new characters creates new drama and intrigue for the pair, but don't discount the continuation of original character stories as well. All in all I couldn't put this book down until it was finished, and was blown away by Nely Cab's eye for detail. Be prepared to go on a journey emotionally as Isis finds the hero in herself, and learns what it means to make sacrifices for the ones we love most.

By Maribel @ Platypire Reviews ***I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.***There is so much I want to say and so much that I CAN'T! When it came to reading the end of the book, I had some colorful words for Nely, because how could she just leave us hanging like that?! I want, no, NEED the third book of this series, like now! But, I have to admit I'm enjoying this feeling of anticipation that cliffhangers always give me.Now that you know the ending made me upset (in a good way, haha), let's get on with what the rest of the book had to offer. We see a character that introduced in Creatura play a bigger part in this book. And let me just say I absolutely hate his guts. Who? Eros. He is a fricking creep who doesn't understand no means NO. N-to-the-O. He constantly harrasses Isis, even when she tells him to get away from her. This isn't okay with me, because it reminds me too much of rape culture. Just because you think a girl may be into you doesn't give you the right to force your unwanted attentions on them. So yeah. I hate Eros.A lot happens to Isis and David as they start their journey in search of Isis' biological father. They both are changing and it's hard not to reveal all the things they undergo without giving out spoilers. But just know that their relationship takes a very different path than the one I thought they would be on. I have to say I missed Claire (Isis' mom) in this book because is quite a quirky character. Hopefully we see more of her in the third book.Apart from the pest that is Eros, this book had me reading until I got to 98% and read Acknowledgements. That's when I realized there was no more story to read and I went on a verbal rampage. And because this book evoked such a strong reaction from me, I give it all 5 Platypires!

Supper normally alludes to the most huge and critical feast of the day, which can be the twelve or the night dinner. Then again, the expression "supper" can have various implications relying upon the way of life; it may mean a dinner of any size eaten whenever of day. Historically, it alluded to the first feast of the day, eaten around twelve, is still in some cases utilized for an early afternoon feast, especially in the event that it is an expansive or primary feast. The significance as the night supper, by and large the biggest of the day, is getting to be standard in many parts of the English-talking world. In Europe, the trendy hour for supper started to be incrementally put off amid the 18th century, to two and three toward the evening, until at the season of the First French Empire an English explorer to Paris commented upon the "detestable propensity for feasting as late as seven at night. In most current uses, the term supper regularly now alludes to the night dinner, which is currently frequently the most huge feast of the day in English-talking societies. At the point when this importance is utilized, the previous dinners are typically alluded to as breakfast, lunch and tea. In a few zones, the custom of utilizing supper to mean the most imperative feast of the day paying little mind to time of day prompts a variable name for dinners relying upon the blend of their size and the season of day, while in others dinner names are settled in view of the time they are devoured. The gap between distinctive implications of "supper" is not straightforward taking into account either geology or financial class. In any case, the utilization of the term supper for the noontime feast is most grounded among regular workers individuals, particularly in the English Midlands, North of England and the focal belt of Scotland. Even in frameworks in which supper is the dinner normally eaten toward the day's end, an individual supper may even now allude to a primary or more advanced feast whenever in the day, for example, a meal, blowout, or an uncommon supper eaten on a Sunday or occasion, for example, Christmas supper or Thanksgiving supper. At such a supper the individuals who feast together may be formally dressed and devour sustenance with a variety of utensils. These suppers are regularly partitioned into three or more courses. Canapés comprising of choices, for example, soup, serving of mixed greens and so on, go before the fundamental course, which is trailed by the pastry. An easygoing survey led by Jacob's Creek, an Australian winemaker, discovered the normal night feast time in the U.K. to be 7:47pm, yet does not state (other than in the journalist own title) if the individuals reviewed call their night feast supper or tea. This meal can be cooked very easy it does not include special skills. There are some recipes that could help you do your dinner very easy.

“Charlena Chandler of Midland is a retired teacher and a very good writer. I've mentioned before how much I enjoyed her collection of Odessa American newspaper columns in Not Far from Dryden. Teachers, young and old, and anyone else who has fond memories of some favorite teachers, will appreciate the experiences and commentaries in this informal memoir. Sections cover literature, football, cheerleading, school publications, extracurricular activities and other topics.” -Glenn Dromgoole, Texas book reviewer and author

“Captures the essence of small town schools in West Texas – a delightful foray into the relationship of teacher and students.” -Patrick Dearen, Award-winning Western novelist and Pecos river historian

“Chandler coached students in many Uil contests, bringing home numerous honors to her school. She is also a superb writer who brings words to life in her descriptions of our unique but beautiful West Texas.” -Gary Hamilton, Superintendent, Terrell County Isd

“Charlena Chandler's writing about my hometown is a charming mix of classical and country, a walk down memory lane, a dose of mom and apple pie. Her style is unique, but her stories are universal.” -Sueann Wade-Crouse, Iraan native, Austin activist, and blog writer

By Devin Alicia Harris Even for a short story, this book was thin on details, plot, and world building. I wanted to enjoy it, because it's always nice to find a zombie book with a female protag, and that isn't a survivalist's wet-dream, but the characters were just too flat, and events weren't depicted with any particular detail. "This happened, then that happened, and the twins were scared" pretty much sums things up.Incidentally, this is the second zombie book I've seen recently where they use "rabid" for the zombies. I guess we've moved on from super-flu and fungal infection.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Not Too Bad By Miranda The Rabid by Christina Estrada is not too bad. Although this book is filled with action, it reads like a first draft. The author needs to slow down and breathe. The pace is so fast that she missed out in adding details to each scene. The characters are likeable but need more information on them to make them more human than just names on paper. Outside from that, this books is an enjoyable read. Christina even ended it on a cliffhanger that works.

The character development is absolutely phenomenal – I felt like I knew each one personally. The author slowly divulges information about the story and characters' situation, so I was constantly on the edge of my seat. A definite page turner. I'm usually not unto sci-fi novels, but this one has convinced me to give them a second chance! Also, I am now afraid of delis.

What if we threw in a smidge of conspiracy and conflict? Well, look no further. "The Line", by Andy Bennett, is all this and more. I found myself reading faster and faster to unravel the connections and to get to the heart-pounding conclusion. Definitely worth the read!

Of course there is a super secret weapons laboratory By Avid Reader We've seen it a million times - a bunch of kids must save the world (or in this case, Chicago) from [fill in blank - EMP, aliens, zombies, vampires] or in this case, a pandemic that only affects those 18 and older. Of course there is a super secret weapons laboratory, big government conspiracy and cover-up and the kids worst enemy is themselves. This is a YA book in the guise of a science fiction novel. The kids have personalities - not the adults. After a series of extremely unlikely events (each depending on figuring out the previous unlikely event) the kids perform a miracle and.... Rather than attempt an ending, the writing suddenly stops. A cop out? Yes, but somehow it "fits" with the story.

The violent Colonel Tek has arranged with a Bakzen sympathizer inside TSS headquarters to have Wil kidnapped. Bakzen General Carzen would like to turn Will peacefully to sympathize with the Bakzen, but Colonel Tek would like to kill him and destroy the threat he poses.Cris is faced with rescuing Will from the the Bakzen at all costs. Will is able to help in his rescue, but what they learn changes both him and Cris in ways they never imagined. The Veil of Reality is an entertaining continuation of the Cadicle Series that continues to pose the question “What next?” The reader feels that they are posed on the brink of a precipice ready to take the next step and slide down hill into the story, but there are always more developments occurring, more surprises around the corner and new characters entering the battle on both sides. The Cadicle Series should appeal to every classical science fiction fan and to every reader who just loves a good military/political adventure story. An excellant, well written sequel By Catherine Mackay Veil of Reality was an awesome sequel to the first book of the Cadicle series which I couldn't stop reading until I had finished. As with the first book, Veil of Reality is very much character driven and Amy DuBoff demonstrates her ability to get into the minds of her lead characters - Kate, Cris and their son, Wil - in order to drive the story forward. This wonderful family is been put through the wringer in more ways than one as they discover layer after layer of lies and deception that both the Priesthood and TSS have kept from them and it eats away at their trust levels - hence the title of the book. This book deals with multiple themes: familial love and the lengths parents go to in order to protect their offspring, lies and deceit, truth and different perspectives from person to person and between different societies and individual destiny. Much of the action is derived from the interaction between different characters, although, there is more physical action in the kidnapping sequence and between fighters as a major character escapes the clutches of the Beksan (the enemies of Tararia). Veil of Reality also introduces new players: the Aeser - which are mentioned and hopefully we may see more of them in the next book. All in all an excellant book that I highly recommend.

Setting up for an Epic Journey By Eric H This book has almost everything: kidnapping, revenge, betrayal, sabotage, action, adventure, and the all-important creation of a nemesis. Though sadly, it’s missing an epic space battle (I love a good capital ship battle). However, knowing where the series is heading, an epic space battle showdown is almost certainly in the cards for future books. The focus of Veil of Reality moves from Cris to his son Wil. Wils importance to the TSS, the Priesthood, the Bakzen, as well as the possible future of humanity is unequivocally laid out before him. At the forefront, can Wil live up to the expectations placed upon him, and will others allow him to meet those expectations? For me, it was a fast and thoroughly enjoyable read. As such, I’ve read it cover to cover twice (thanks to receiving a pre-release copy from the author in exchange for an honest review).Character development is excellent. I can empathize with Cris and his desire to do anything for his family. I understand Wil’s determination to be a strong leader and not let down his family and friends. Kate’s worries for her family turning into a dogged determination to find out the truth is something I’ve seen in others when dealing with hardships.Pros:· This novel stands alone. By that I mean it doesn’t require reading the first book to enjoy this novel. However, much like seasoning will enhance the flavor of something cooked on a grill, reading the first novel will enhance the readers experience of this novel.· Brings us up to speed quickly without feeling like we’re missing some vital piece of information. Initially I was concerned about the time gap between the end of Architects of Destiny and the start of Veil of Reality. However, Ms. DuBoff handles the transition in such a way that we don’t need a detailed history of the missing time span.· Wils destiny is laid out before him, setting the stage for where the series is heading. Based on Architects of Destiny (book 1) and Veil of Reality there will be a lot of political intrigue, military battles, and personal conflict as the truth is revealed.Cons:· We skip over the formative years of Cris and Kates relationship and jump right into their having a teen aged son. While the series is about Wil, I’d love to see some back story on the two. Perhaps future spin off series? This series stands apart from others in that it's not just another "humans leaving Earth and exploring the universe" plot line. This is an alternate view of our galaxy/universe and what could be going on just out of sight. Highly recommend!

There is some repetition due to including a few articles that Lynnea has published, but the book is very informative. I have a much better understanding of this condition. Thanks!
