A young man from the Bronx, becoming bored with school and life in the city, begins thinking of entering the military. He ends up in a famous battle, but not before facing many growing pains and experiences. An adventurer at heart, he planned to join the Navy’s elite Underwater Demolition Team (UDT) , then is challenged by a friend saying that the Marines is more of an elite military organization. Finding that the Marine Corps is an elite branch of the Navy, and also had Reconnaissance Units that did all and more than the Navy’s UDT, he decides to join the Marines and get into a Recon Unit. However, it was not as easy as he thought. He drops out of high school, and attempts to enlist in the Marine Corps, just after his 17th birthday. He then finds out doing that created a problem from the start. His arrogant nature clashes with an interviewing officer and his plans to enter the Corps are delayed. However, encouraged by his recruiting officer, some months later he tries again, and is accepted in the Marine Corps, in March of 1963. This book describes in detail his journey through Marine Corps boot camp in Parris Island SC, and summarizes a few weeks of Guard Duty, and the month of the basic Infantry Training all Marines must go through before going to their first permanent duty station. After the training, his plan to become part of a Recon Unit does not come as expected, and he finds himself in a regular rifle company.

By gabriella mantrow May I begin by stating that this book, "We R NOT WARMONGERS" is a touching story.The author, RC Binns, writes as if he were to speak to yoy face to face, causing you to feel his emotions through every meaningful symbolism and short story. I Truly felt as if I had known the men he wrote about as if they had been part of my life for years. The motivation and dedication that was put into this novel truly made it come alive.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Certainly Different but Fun to Read By BMWpilot I really enjoyed the book. The swap certainly was surprising and different. It was also interesting about the details regarding clothing and mannerisms that the author introduced. And of course all of us BattleTech fans read about some of our favorite mechs popping up. The only distractions were the typos or wrong words that occurred. Those mainly appeared in the last half of the book. I'm picking up book two since it's already out.

By Amazon Customer This author has captured the interpersonal communication and plot flow that Robert Heinlein at his peak (Moon is a harsh Mistress through Time enough for Love) better than anyone I have ever read.Since to me Heinlein was one of the best at this, it is no small feat.I have read a ton of reviews of books that have story arc's comparable to “Space Cadet” or “Starship Troopers” that have proclaimed “The new Heinlein”, and none of them have measured up, even if the book is better as a straight story saying a book like Space cadet(written in 1949 for preteens to inspire them to go into aerospace) or Starship Troopers(written as a alternate fix for broken democracy where people with no risk or responsibility ends up sending others off to die) is comparable is silly.Especially when they don't have the plot and communication flow of the later books that made them so good.The writing is like Heinleins and it is huge on personal responsibility like Heinleins, but the story(other than some plot lines which might be shout outs or just the result of Heinlein making concepts that inspired so much later sci-fi) is different in style with almost every anime trope out there, lots of historical Japanese culture, and tons of easter eggs of references to popular tv shows.Those personally aren't a problem to me, it's just a much more modern and younger style than existed back then.The down side is there are a lot of word substitution errors, and some word missing and punctuation errors.To me this is tiny in comparison to finding someone who actually is so enjoyable to read.If the author can point me to a way to clearly send back word substitutions I could send her a fix for at least 80-90% of them within a few days.I am making this five stars because finding someone this good is huge, and word corrections are something that can be done if the author gets the right positive feedback to do it.(although I am sure Amazon makes updates limited or costly).Note: This is written for the first three books which were released at the same time, which is good because since it really isn't written so the individual books have in my opinion a natural sub story arc at the cut points.

It was as if the authors used a speech recognition software to write the story. Unfortunately it seems no one re-read what was transcribed. The book and the two follow-up books badly need a professional editor.

About the Author Russell Atkinson served as an FBI Special Agent for twenty-five years, where he specialized in high-technology crimes in Silicon Valley. He was the case agent on the first federal prosecution in California under the Economic Espionage Act. He worked on several high-profile kidnapping cases and has arrested murderers and drug dealers. After retiring from the FBI he practiced law. With degrees in mathematics and law he worked for many high-tech firms in the computer industry including IBM, Fairchild Semiconductor, and AOL. He served as President of the American Cryptogram Association and has written extensively on cryptographic topics. He was Head Cryptographer for the movie The Red Machine. Now retired, he lives in Silicon Valley and spends time with his interests: running, geocaching, guitar, cryptography, and, of course, writing.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Another Well-Crafted Adventure with Cliff Knowles By Bassocantor GUT SHOT is a little different than the other Cliff Knowles mysteries. This time, the theme is not so technical in nature. Geocaching doesn't really play a major part in the story, unlike some of the prior books. I think this is a good thing, since not all readers want to see massive technical details. This story will appeal to a more general audience.As with the prior Cliff Knowles adventures, the story is well-crafted, with attention to detail. If you're familiar with the genre, "police procedural," you will feel right at home. Lots of details about clues, who said what, who went where, etc. Of course, Cliff Knowles is once again falsely accused of a diabolical crime. Not murder this time, but almost as bad. (This guy does tend to be accused a lot!)The author includes several diagrams to illustrate the crime scene--in this case, the barracks at a FBI training center at Camp Parks, in Dublin, California (See photo below.)It seems to me that the author's strong point is his ability to write realistic dialogue that is faithful to the story, but yet still interesting. He has a knack for understanding how people really interact. Not sure how he does that--maybe the author's expereince as an FBI agent? In any case, his talent for telling a good story makes the book more interesting.All in all, GUT SHOT is another fun read produced Russell Atkinson. Thanks for adding the crime scene photos. I have read all of the author's works beginning when I first stumbled across his first book, Held For Ransom, which is the story of the head man at the San Francisco office of the FBI. I understand Mr. Atkinson is a retired Agent and that shows in all of his books and is what makes them so interesting. While it is obvious they are fiction he blends in real incidents and places so you can almost picture the stories as being real. I really enjoyed the way he placed this story at the Alameda County Sheriff's Office Firearms Range and put in the story the fact the TV show Mythbusters was filming there. I know for a fact they do film there so that really helped with making the storyline all the more believable. It reminded me of how in his last book he worked in references to the real life UNABOM case which I understand was one of the FBI's greatest success stories of modern times. If you like crime stories and are looking for ones that make you feel like they could be really happening this is a great story to choose.

Good plot line and ongoing development of characters within the work of fiction. Would have enjoyed the integration of geo-caching hobby a bit more in this book but even so I would definitely recommend this book to others. I especially enjoy the locality references as a bay area native as it brings me a bit closer to the story and plot .

Hot and Heavy Start to a Series By Scarlett Knight This is a very quick read that starts out with a mystery and plunges head-on into a hot and heavy erotic romance. I like the main character Eve Harper, who is a strong, sensual woman who knows what she wants. By the book's end, it's clear that this story is the first in the series. The mystery established in the beginning, concerning her cousin, actually doesn't get answered at the end, so things are left unresolved, where that's concerned. I enjoyed Dakota Storm's narrative in this short book, and I happened to hear it in my head in the author's own voice because I've watched clips of her reading her work in her adorable accent!

The characters are richly developed and respond to circumstances as we would expect--except when they surprise us! It takes a talented mind to blend Amish, dystopian, and science fiction elements along with action and suspense, and Ching gets the job done.I love a good story, and this YA novel will appeal to more than just teens. Parents can read and discuss with their teens, since this story raises important questions about ethics and values.

Kept me on my toes. The character development is strong. I find myself genuinely rooting for these characters. A little Amish, dystopian, and paranormal are wound together in this book--truly unique to Ms. Ching's mind and her ability to create and deliver. And deliver she does. I don't normally like dystopians or anything resembling them, but Wired and the other books in this series are approachable to even a reader like me. Highly recommend to people looking for a different kind of read.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Excellent trilogy By Gwen Nicodemus This series was fantastic. The characters were ones, that if real, you'd like to be around instead of whiny, snotty brats. They used their brains, but were still young adults. The series showed growth for both of the main characters, but the growth was reasonable for the action and timeline. The ending was good in that it was happy but not perfect--there were consequences for the characters' actions. I'll definitely read more from this author.

By Wonder Woman Ok this book was so good I could not, and would not put it down, and you should not waste another minute not buying it. This is another one of Francis Stockton's characters that is introduced previously in Playing Doctor. You'll also want to read Quarteback Blitz, Ink Master, Field of Play, and Cuff Master. Although they aren't titled as a series they are all connected. Hazard' s Dare actually mentions all the characters and gives you an update on everyone from all the books I mentioned. They are also well written books with hot men, great sex, and how they treat their women is mouth watering yummy.This story is Avery's and she is introduced in Doctor's Play as I mentioned before. She has just come out of a bad relationship and her brother, Alex, and his husband talk her into moving near them and working for Ryan, the brother-in-law. In Hazard' s Dare Avery goes to a conference for work and then decides to a go on a week's vacation in Dare, NV. She decides to start living and freeing herself from the good girl image she's always held by going to a night club called Truth or Dare. When she enters she sees the man she has been crushing on for the past six months on stage singing. Trevor Hazard Osborn, a football player for the Alexandria Griffins, was a client of her brother Alex. He is his agent. Avery had briefly met him when she was engaged.Alex, had already warned Trevor that Avery was coming and asked him to look out for her. He had a bad feeling, and had been warned by a good friend that Avery was in danger. As soon as Trevor had locked eyes on Avery he knew he would be doing more then looking out for her. When he had finished his set Trevor swooped in, claimed what he considered was his, and no other man had a prayer of a chance. Avery and Trevor hit it off, and quickly got to know each other better. Unfortunately, a man Avery had previously turned down couldn't take no for an answer and he continues throughout the story to make himself known more and more. His true intentions unravel and he doesn't care who he hurts in pursuit of getting what he wants.I hope that's enough to grab your interest. I'm not one to retell a story, but I promise you, you won't be disappointed. Check her other books out as well. You won't be lost if you don't read them in order.

Loved the entire series I have read them ALL.. lots of interactions between them from book to book but each one stands up on its own .. find them ALL and be prepared to be hooked to the entire series I already want the next story... in my hands today
